(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Ok, so the time has come to replace my clutch master and slave cylinders. I've been having problems with my clutch, and after reading through the forums, it seems that its either the master or slave cylinder thats starting to fail, so since its been suggested that both get replaced at the same time, thats my next project. But one thing i couldnt find much info on is which brand to go with. is ther a brand thats better than the rest, or are they all about the same? These are some of the options that i'm looking at: Pep Boys: LuK Original Master cylinder, Dorman slave cylinder Autozone: Duralast Master cylinder AdvanceAutoparts: Perfection Clutch Technovation Master and Slave cylinders Rock Auto: Exedy, Rhinopac, Beck/Arnley, Wagner Master cylinder, (didnt see the slave cylinder in their catalog) Is ther any one brand thats better than the rest or are they all about the same? is there any brands that i should avoid? Are there any other brands i didnt list that are better than these? Also, is there any special procedure for bleeding the master cylinder? I found a howto for bleeding the the slave cylinder and it seems pretty straightforward. Once i install both master and slave cylinder, will following the procedure for bleeding the slave cylinder bleed the master cylinder as well, or are there additional steps i need to take to bleed the master? |

| Not Ranked : 0 score The pepboys luk/dorman combo is likely the oem manufacturers but I doubt its a oem quality part, generally parts sold to oems are higher quality than those sold to pepboys etc. Ide stay far away from the rest. Napa brand parts are generally fairly high quality as well.

| Not Ranked : 0 score The og slave cylinder was made of plastic and with the heavy duty clutch it will brake after awhile. This happened to me. The new upgraded slave cylinder is made of metal. The master cylinder I would say yes spend the extra money.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I have replaced both and swapped in a braided hose as well, just recently. I agree the issue is more than likely the slave. But don't overlook the master. They may not "blow", but its seal can wear out after so long, just like anything else. Might as well do it, just for good measure. Honestly, I don't see why you don't just rebuild them both. Mazda sells rebuild kits. And they are cheap. You can pull the master, rebuild it and reinstall in 30 minutes. Slave is even easier. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

| Not Ranked : 0 score total noob showing on this one, anyone have a diy or know where i can find instructions on how to rebuild these bitches. I think mine are bad, as my clutch pedal is "dynamic". If I drive out of boost the clutch engagement point is roughly the same. As soon as I go WOT the next shift the clutch engagement is totally different, and is at the top of the pedal, vs middle or bottom on every other shift. Not to mention the grinding has been getting worse as of late. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Whats wrong with a rebuild kit? Its a 1/5 of the price and you maintain the OEM casing. You are just replacing the springs and o-rings. TiGrayspeed6 did his a little while ago and so far it has been strong. He may..may have posted a how-to on 6forums but not sure. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I'm just confused on the master cylinder as I know our brake and clutch share the same reservoir. So is the clutch master cylinder connected to the brake master cylinder? I know where the slave cylinder is as that is where i bled my clutch fluid at and easily accessable |

| Not Ranked : 0 score No, they are housed separately. I guess you know where the brake master is. Well, the clutch master is nearby, attached to the firewall, just in front on the clutch pedal. When you press the clutch, a little rod protrudes forward, and into a little piston on the clutch master. Anyway, it is easy as balls to rebuild. Both the master cylinders really don't need a walk through. It is more difficult getting them off of the car than it is to rebuild them. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

| Not Ranked : 0 score Okay I have a problem. Replaced my slave cylinder last week with a brand new OEM cylinder. Car drove fine for a week, no leaks, no mushy pedal, then I had sudden clutch failure in a drive thru line. All of a sudden cylinder is hemorrhaging fluid from where the hydraulic line goes in, and my clutch won't even attempt to engage. Weird thing is there's still full pressure on the pedal. And before you ask, yes I put the gasket back in when I replaced it. Lost it and took forever finding it when I replaced it, so I'm positive it's in. Any ideas?

| Not Ranked : 0 score I know this is years old but has anyone heard of a slave cylinder that can produce more force than the OEM? I am needing either the South Bend stage 4 or Clutch Master twin disc 725 to hold power down. I heard that with the stage 4 I would need to upgrade my slave cylinder as the force of the clutch would make the slave wear out quickly. |

All things being equal should the stage 3 south bend clutch be compatible with stock slave and master or is there a better quality slave and master or is it possibly something completely Different the car belongs to.my son so my heart kind of hurts for him. My wallet kind of hurts to oo. Thanks for the suggestion |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Search google about this, there has been a discrepancy in slave cylinders from Mazda. You need to do both a new line and slave from the dealer to actually fix this. The next thing to go will likely be your clutch pedal bracket. Google all I just typed with mazdaspeed in the search.
