Default Installed my James Barone SSP this weekend

So I wanted to add to all of the rave reviews of Jamies short shift plate by saying that it is DA SHIT. However, I had to remove my COBB knob, as it was too light for this new mod, and put the stock knob back on. However, once I did that, the shifts became fuckin Amazing!!! This is hands down the best mod. Will be making a for sale thread for the COBB knob soon, and will probably look into a shift knob a little heavier than the stocker.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but what everyone says is a 20 minute install took me an hour and a half (not that it was hard, but I took my time, and the battery tray was connected by some plastic shit to the battery cables so I couldn't get that completely out of the way, and had some trouble with the shift cable mount bolts and extenders)

Anyways, Its the Shit!

Why did you have to take the battery tray out? I've put my SSP on and off a few times and I still have trouble popping the cable off the ball stud. I use a wrench, then needle nose pliers, then try the wrench again, then the pliers........ I guess it's a good thing that it's so hard to get off (that's what she said).

He's got an MS6, The kit for his car comes with some additional parts that are installed under the battery.

Thank,

I laughed when I read this, because that is the only part of the install I surprised myself on. The first time I did it, I got a wrench wedged under there and it wouldn't budge so I applied "All-The-Strength-In-The-Universe(tm)" to it and when it popped off it let out a mechanical clunk so loud I was sure I was the only speed owner to ever dismount his engine using a 10mm wrench.

So what did it, was it trying mine out at the College Park meet?! lol
I told you that thing was amazing! Best bang for the buck I have.

I took it slow on mine as well, so no worries. Granted, in my hour and a half my buddy and I went through 1 1/2 six packs... lol

Actually for me the cable posed no problem, came off and went back on very easily, almost too easily for my liking.... Maybe someone's messed with it before though. I had to take the battery tray out because theres the cable under it tied to a mount... That mount needs to be raised so that the cable is able to clear some shit, not sure what though.

As a matter of fact it was! I wasn't buying all the rave reviews on here until I actually tried it out. I had the COBB knob on for about two months and I took it for a test drive after I installed the SSP and was like WTF, it sucked the thing was so damn hard to shift. Then I put the stock knob back on and I was like heres what Jordans car felt like !!!

I'm with you on the heavier knob. In fact, I'm looking into getting a custom heavyweight made b/c I think it'll help even moars.

It will... Problem is though I haven't seen any really nice looking heavyweight knobs for our cars.. As a matter of fact the only good looking knob I've seen so far is the stock knob. Everything else just doesn't look all that great to me. While I had the COBB knob on for a while, and loved how it felt in my hand, I always hated that oversized unproportional ball look.... Anyways, once I see something good looking enough and heavier than stock, I'll jump all over that. In the meanwhile. I'll just sell the COBB.

Yep...That's why it takes a little longer to install.

Thanks You for the review; I'm thrilled you're so pleased with it.

Thanks,

the SSP is the shiznit, but the shifts are indeed harder. I do find myself having trouble with popping into gear sometimes. I plan on 'tuning' that soon. I don't understand how a heavier knob works, but maybe I need one. For what these knobs are, it's retarded how much they cost. Maybe I'll look into having my machinist just make one for me.

yeah, they do cost a shitload - I didn't understand what the difference was either until I installed the SSP and tried shifting with my COBB knob, I hated it and wanted to take the SSP off, until I put the stock knob back on and then I was like ahhhh here it is !! I imagine if I had an even heavier knob, my shifts would be even more improved (I have trouble with 5th and 6th pushing it in there a little)

Make sure you guys adjust the gizmo under the shifter. Gotta pop the middle of the console out to get to it. Jamie has a video of it on his website if you don't know what I'm talking about.

I have mine adjusted just a little bit to the right of where it sits stock and it works like butter with the stock knob.

Guys...do the adjustment, it will greatly improve the shifting. The concept is the same as the MS3. The only difference is you need to pull out the white clip so you can make the adjustments.

Thanks,
Jamie

I just talked my buddy into ordering the JBarone shift plate as well. I already did the TWM a long time ago and don't think the JBarone was all that prevalent back then, my loss.

Anyways, great to hear you like it! I hear JBarone is a quick shipper, my buddies order went from processed to shipped in 2 hours or less

He's an obnoxiously quick shipper. I had mine I think within two days of placing the order. All the status updates you could dream of and immediate action. The only thing that rivals his SSP is the customer service. Your friend should buy you a beer and a stripper for convincing him.

When I put in the ssp, I didn't think the shifts could get any better, but then last weekend I had Jamie send me a heavy shift knob (he may still have a few more) and it makes something great even better. It was worth it, the heavy knob definately helps.

Thanks...it really does make a difference. I was skeptical before I installed one, but after I did I was amazed.

Thanks,

Jamie, if so, why does your site say $135?

Yeah sorry about that. I don't have them listed separately...That's for the knob combined with a short shift plate.

Thanks,

Please post a clarification Jamie, I will gladly buy one from you in a week or so as long as I'm not paying $135 for it (1) and as long as you are standing behind the knobs, not E4 (2).

I stand behind every product I sell. I will never screw or take advantage of anyone.

If you're interested in one of the knobs you can PAYPAL me $65 direct to jamesbaroneracing@gmail.com. Be sure to check with me first to ensure I have them because; they do sell pretty fast and it takes about a week for me to get more. I usually don't run out. During the payment process be sure to mention which knob you want. As soon as I get time I will list them on the site to make it easier to purchase as well.

Thanks.
Jamie

I installed my JBarone SSP this afternoon. It definitely took a couple tries to get everything tuned in just right. I'm still getting used to the feel of the transmission just like I did when I bought the car, but the short throws help a lot with quick shifting. Thanks Jbarone!

I installed my SSP and bushings yesterday and after getting the airbox out the way properly and tuning the shifter I finally got it just right and it is sweet. Super fast delivery, thanks a lot.

bushings were installed a while back, shifter was tuned. Stock position was as good as it was gettin. I got this annoying bump going into gear. Ever gear, every time. like the shifter binds just before going into gear. I don't suspect anything is wrong, just feeling it going into gear more since we don't have as much of a mechanical advantage anymore.

Looking into a heavier knob now. Anyone know what the thread on the stock knob is? There are plenty of knobs out there at 400+ grams, just need to know the thread size. I'm thinking 10x1.5?

the $65 for the E4 knob isn't too bad, just don't like how it looks
