3140 is what she tipped the scales at. That is about 1/2 tank of gas. Sport model. Gutted interior/door panels/speakers. No cats/mufflers, just a 3" pipe/resonator ending at my rear diff. My tire setup was right around 35lbs/wheel. BSD and a couple other things. You can get the speed6 to under 3000 for sure.

I weighted my speed3 and got 3,180. It's a 2008.5 GT without navigation. My goal is to get it down to 2900lbs. With a carbo fiber hood, trunk, 17inch rpf1, spare tire and jack removed, along with a race battery I believe is possible. I will be racing in autocross. If I can get it to weight around 2,900lbs with me in it then that's amazing but ill be fine with 2,900lbs just the car. I weight 135lbs

This what you looking for? 2970lbs no carbon fiber hoods and trunk but the interior was taking out other than the stereo and the door panels. we could have gotten another 150 or so off had we tried..

Also i use the scale at the local racetrack when i go..

Everyone has changes their intake and TIH, anyone weigh those yet? If not, I'll bring them to work tomorrow and weigh them. Oh and the rear wiper assembly. That thing has a surprisingly hefty motor.

Atco is only 10-15 minutes from me and I go there. I'm pretty sure they don't have a scale. Unless I've never seen it before

Anybody strip a MS6 for more than just drag racing?

Any autocrossers out there with a gutted Speed6?

I will be getting a half cage in a few months, so the rear seats will be gone and the rear will be stripped. It is possible the front will follow suit in the future. This is for road racing.

Welded in, will go with racing seats and a harness setup at the same time. The half cage will be designed in such a way that it could be made into a full cage in the future if needed. Will post pictures when I have all the shit done but it will not be ready until probably March or April.

Why is adding weight a topic of conversation in a weight reduction thread?

I placed the order for the seats on March 1. The seats are custom made with the lead time of 6-7 weeks so they should be shipping in hopefully about 2-3 weeks. I am driving with NASA on April 20-21, then with the local group on May 4-5, then again on May 18-19.

If we can do the cage between the events, that would be great. If not, I will have to wait until May 20, the next event after that is June 15-16 which will give me 4 weeks.

The car is close to 300 lbs down from the stock weight. With the racing seats and the cage I will be happy if the net reduction stays around 300 lbs.

But if you removed 300 lbs from stock weight, then added cage+ seats, then you have added some of that 300lbs back. And we know that the cage is not a light addition.

I think he's saying the cage is adding back the weight savings from the seat. I would guess the roll cage + seat is going to be heavier than OEM seat.

BTW why add a cage? You plan on running low 11's?

That 300 lbs weight reduction is still with the stock front seats in, stock seat belts, trim on the rear doors, sound deadening, dashborad (not sure how much of it will come out yet), trim on trunk door. The stock seats and brackets are something like 58 lbs for the driver seat and 48 lbs for the passenger seat. The racing seats are 18 lbs each + custom brackets. I am hoping for a 300 lbs total weight loss, may end up closer to 250 lbs, we will see in the next few months.

Never did drag racing, this is for HPDE and hopefully time trials in the future. I slide too much on the track when cornering and with harnesses you really want a proper cage.

Edit: Oh, and I am going with a full cage, not half. Not sure about the door bars yet as I want to keep the power windows operational.

I've seen some interesting setups with a single door bar that is hinged at the A pillar(footwell) and has a pin that you put in the B pillar during track days to lock it in. This is obviously not as strong as a proper setup, but it's better than nothing and allows for easy in and out if driving on the street as well as retaining the entire door assembly if needed.

Pulled the AC system today.

The inside the cabin A/C unit is 17.2 lbs (that includes all the plastic things, and blower, heater core, etc).

The condenser and the refrigerant lines in the engine bay are 7.6 lbs.

Total is 24.8 lbs.

Anyone knows how heavy the AC compressor is?

Assuming the AC compressor is about 20 lbs, the whole AC system is about 45 lbs, not a huge amount, but respectable for weight reduction and all the shit comes from the front!

I could've sworn I weighed the compressor when I pulled mine. Though I couldn't delete it without fabbing up an idler pulley to replace it, so I may not have. I don't even know if I still have it laying around, may have sold it. But if I find it when I move all my tools/parts from my pop's place to my new house I'll be sure to weigh it.

And yeah, pulling the a/c & stereo wasn't a huge gain, but because racecar!

And yeah, pulling the a/c & stereo wasn't a huge gain, but because racecar!
Willing to bet its about 17-20 lbs

Total is 24.8 lbs.

Anyone knows how heavy the AC compressor is?

Assuming the AC compressor is about 20 lbs, the whole AC system is about 45 lbs, not a huge amount, but respectable for weight reduction and all the shit comes from the front!
Added the quote to the beginning...

Have you weight just the sound deadning under the rug? i got in my car today and i had water all over the place from where???? So i pulled the sound deadning out from the driverside front and rear...

The sticky stuff? Yes, 13 lbs total, I left only the two thin stripes on the transmission tunnel, they are probably less than half a pound.

@RhoadBlock; did you fab your own AC bypass? Supposedly @djuosnteisn; used a Mazda 3 or Mazda 5 bypass pulley, I searched the forum and could not find it, I searched the interwebs and could not find a bypass pulley for these cars. And here's a quote from another thread that I do not want to hijack:

Is this even possible, wouldn't the alternator be upside down?

I didn't. I had plans to, but the build took another direction when the motor blew. It would be pretty simple. Just need to source a pulley the same diameter as the a/c compressor, then fab up a bracket for it.

Now, look into Duratec alternator relocation kits. They've got some trick stuff. With us we couldn't simply remove the compressor and be done with it, belt would rub against each other. We'd have to fab an idler pulley to replace it, or do an alternator relocation (I can't remember the prices off the top of my head, but from what I recall the kits weren't terribly expensive.) Relocating the alternator with a deleted compressor may be a solution, tho I don't know how that would affect the belt routing. I'd have to look at the kits and a belt diagram.

Well i am not going to flame you but you do know that is illegal right? As far as weight i think you will get more than 50 out of that. I am thinking more like 75+ if you are removing all windows.
