Default purple drank oil pressure woes

so i noticed i have a small leak around my ofh (oil filter housing) i started investigating because i obviously cannot go back to the track dripping oil. I've always noticed that i have had higher than normal oil pressure but somehow i had convinced myself that my excessive cc pressure was causing the issue...... wrong obviously! So I'm wondering what everyone else oil pressure is who has a built motor and maybe if there is some sort of remedy to this issue or something that i have over-looked.....

idle 50 psi
cruising 75-80 psi
wot 100+

I've been through 2 sensors to test and have an genpu ofh with an sandwich plate running Mobil1 15w50

also i have recently pulled my oil pan off and inspected my oil pickup for clogs blah blah and it is complete and healthy

Will, higher weight oil does increase oil pressure. Also, high volume oil pumps do the same because generally they pump about 20% more oil through the engine. When using a stock pump, it works harder to pump thicker oil resulting in increased pressure. However this doesn't always hold true.

To keep pressure inline with new engines using thicker oil, it's been recommended by my experience with several engine builders to switch to a larger oil pan and high volume oil pump.

I had close to the same oil pressure issues when i was running rotella (yesterday) sorry i should have mentioned that in my op and i realizes a thicker oil will bring up pressure but i am pegging that gauge at wot so that is the one thing that is kinda worrying me

So you are seeing oil squeezing from the oil filter location because of the high oil pressure? You may be at risk of blowing your rear main seal if you aren't careful. I've personally never had oil pressure that high before.

I'd be looking at the ofh as the source... Those sandwich adapters are shit and without screens at the fitting locations can lead to clogging.

yea i get seep from multiple locations at the oil filter housing...... around the housing itself where the gasket meets the block and at the bridge of the seal of the oil filter

Pull it out along with the sandwich. I believe this may be the cause of your problem.

There is no doubt and issue i'm just confused how lets say a blockage could cause higher oil pressure...... i would think it would lower the pressure? Regardless it is coming off i'm just trying to get my nigga mind working before i got fucking shit up and tearing shit apart

not sure if this helps or not, but before my engine let go and was running healthy, my oil pressure was at about 100psi at start up, and then would drop to about 60 psi cruising and 80 psi at WOT. It might dip down to as low as 40 psi at idle IIRC.

EDIT: I did have a tiny weep from my sandwich plate as well.

If the pump can achieve the same flow rate then a smaller orifice would mean more pressure is required. However it could also be skewed by wherever the oil pressure sensor is placed (before or after the restriction). Just throwing ideas

Im with Kevin, toss the sammich plate. They are not designed for the oil flow that our engine has. When I did my remote oil cooler/filter I did the filter solely because no available sammich plate has 1/2" or larger ID orifices throughout, they all neck down somewhere or are too small to begin with.

So not to take away from this thread and start a new topic but what would then be recommended vs the sandwhich plate?

I'll have to double check but its fairly high. Prosport Sammich plate
10-40 oil

90PSI cold Idle but would need to check the rest.

I may do some tuning today and can check.

Restrictions increase pressure but decrease overall flow (unless pressure is increased enough to compensate)

Think of fat/cholesterol accumulating in vascular tissue, blood pressure goes up.

100% kind of unrelated, but my miata is about 30psi at idle 60 psi wot lolol.

On my prosport gauge (recall function) it has maxed out at 100 psi, but I am not sure when that happens. I mean does that kind of pressure show up during a WOT run, or does show up when I am moderately accelerating when the engine oil is not quite up to temp.

I have the gauge set to alert me when it goes below 20PSI, but I do not have a way to alert me when it goes high. Shit happens too quick on a wot run to be staring at a little gauge...lol! I need a passenger to watch it for me, or I guess I could figure out a way to set my gopro up to watch it.

EDIT:

I forgot to mention, I do not have a sammich plate. I threaded a fitting into the stock port and "T"ed from that fitting to adapt the OEM sending unit and then the prosport sending unit.

I have the "halo" series which might be what you have. I let the car reach temp then reset the recall function the make a run. Then you know the max is either WOT or close

I wanted to tee off the oem port but i was rushing and the plate was easy. If the consensus is they are bad then ill make the switch

Identical specs as me except I have a 3 not a 6. On a cold start it is above 100 at idle.

Those are some insanely high oil pressures. Will, are you seeing any blow by or catching large amounts of oil in your CC at all? I'm quite curious how these high pressures are affecting your pcv setup.

** Edit **

So I've been cruising some scoobie forums and other assorted rice... Seems that 80-100 psi is not unusual. I'd just address the leak and remove that sandwich plate. No reason why you can't tee off the original sensor like Dano did.

No, I do not have a parts list of the fittings. That was one of the first things I did to the car back in '07. It's not hard to figure out, a couple of street ells a close nipple and a "t" Everything is 1/8" npt. You might have to work at getting everything clocked correctly.

One more thing to take into consideration, if brass is used, be extremely careful not to over tighten the fittings, or you will hate your life.

what are you trying to say...I'm lazy or stupid...or both

so it IS 1/8" NPT...I figured the OEM port was metric.

that will give me a place to start.

The OEM sender looks bigger than my Prosport sender for sure. I'll figure it out.

I believe blow by was a concern for him.

I took look at the video you post WILL just have a few questions .
1: What is your coolant temps like?
2: what is your rpm set at Idle?
3: what side did you install the oil pressure sensor at?
4: what year did you get the oil housing from?

I also seen you posted up that you have small leak around oil filter housing filter housing did you replace the gasket and clean the surface area really good?

NOTE:

The oil pressure can vary with oil viscosity and temperature.

Oil pressure (reference value) [oil temperature: 100 °C {212 °F}]
43.1—79.9 psi} [3,000 rpm

WILL if you look at the video you posted when you rev to at 2500rpm you oil pressure at 76psi its really hard to tell with that gauge.

So as i am on my way out to the runs i decided i would make these vids for you and it was with my blackberry so sorry for the shaky video kind of hard to hold it straight when the boost comes on so i had to slow the boost down..

Idle oil pressure just starting the car...

Cruising pressure

Cruising a few minute after warm up

Cruising at about 60 sorry i stated 80 in the vid but the speedo said different!!

Had to turn the boost down and slow the ramp speed to get a clear video of WOT..

Hope this helps a little... As i started before i am running royal purple oil with the spin on filter and on this change i used a 5w 30 oil..
