Default Speed 6 and Cx7 transfer case the same?

I have been looking at pictures and they look exactly the same? Does anyone know for sure if that are.

Supposidly they are not the same. I have a extra cx-7 tcase that I picked up for $200 from a very nice lady that was kicking her old man to the curb and selling his shit on ebay. They both look the same to me, both of the cases have the same part numbers inside as far as I can tell but the part numbers for the entire case is different.

Ya, i figured they wouldnt have the same part numbers, but they look very similar. The only thing i would think is that the gearing in the inside may be a bit different.

Both the manual and automatic trans cx-7 have identical part numbers except for the entire assembly. The ms6 has the same the same parts as far as I can tell, except for the entire case, what bugs me is that with the ms6 there seems to be an interchange where some of the tcase part numbers were updated from XXXXXXA to XXXXXXB or XXXXXXC etc and I assume the part is basically materially the same except for some small update that doesnt change its bolt on compatibility.

I suppose that there is a chance that if you swap to one updated part, it requires all of the updated parts to function properly.

The cx-7, from what I can see, has all of the updated numbers and it doesnt even list the old ms6 numbers. The ms6 lists all the cx-7 numbers along with some alphbetically earlier part numbers.

I know for a fact that the ms6 case was updated and I assume a alphabetically later part number was issued to set it appart from the leaking cases. If that is the case, then all the cx-7s should use the updated case.

Well i suppose soon enough we will know if these items will mix and match well. I am using a speed 6 transfer case and a cx7 rear end. There has to be a way to find out what the gearing for each individual box is. Front and rear for both vehicles.

I almost bet the ms6 rear diff gear ratio is 1:1, but I havent checked.

The transfercase and gears are the same but where you hook the drive shaft up is TOTALLY different. When i found out that my transfercase was cracked we had a cx7 in the shop and i was matching up the cases and they were the same except for those things. Also you can't pull the part where the driveshaft hooks up at off on the cx7 one but you can on the mazdaspeed6. think i have pics somewhere i'll look for them...

They are the same! One of my friends is driving a cx7 transfer case for a couple of months already.. It just took him to change the driveshaft flange or do some other minor work to fit the 6.

How did you remove it then as there is no bolt in the center like the speed6 as it looks like it was riveted on ? do you have pics the transfer cases?

the stub shafts are what make them different it think, unless the gear drive is different inside.

Hey guys you can use a cx7 case all day. I bought a used low low mileage cx7 case off a 2007. You do have to swap the flange and then remove te splines from your old case and swap tem over. It's so easy though. Took like 10 minutes to swap over the intermediate shafts. Unbolt the one shaft pull it out then tap the other shaft out.
