(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Hey guys hoping someone can lead me along the right path. Trying to change the clutch on my 07 speed 3. I cannot for the life of me get the axle out of the transmission. Is there something holding it in or am I missing something? I have the transmission out of the car. Trying to pry the axle out has led me nowhere. I can see it moving up a tad when i pry upwards but then it drops right back down. There is a metal guard it seems that I have flared up. Looks like it just covers the seal. Is there any idea why it would be so stuck in the transmission? Am I going to have to pull the outer cover off and see why it's stuck in the diff? This car has been a nightmare compared to my miata. Being a northern car probably hasn't helped lol. Any tips are appreciated! |

| Not Ranked : 0 score On my '09 I wedged a pry bar in between the axle and transmission, pried until it was taut, then whacked the pry bar with my 3lbs sledge. Popped it right out. My metal guard was a little mangled but I bent it back to what it was before popping it back in with a new axle clip.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score thanks for the reply! Guess i'm just being a bit of a pansy with it. Didn't want to break anything in the diff. I'll try giving it a good smack on the pry bar. |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Thanks! Any tips for seperating the P/S axle and the half shaft? The tip on the P/S axle is demolished. I've been smacking the shit out of it and no luck. So it will need replaced. Can you buy just the axle if the half shaft bearing is still good? |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Leave the PS axle in, the half shaft can be unbolted from the engine and then it just slides out from the tranny. Then take it to a shop to separate it for you. Yes, you can replace just the axle.
