| Not Ranked : 0 score If taking a WHEEL off increases your difficulty level to a degree where you're looking for an easier way, don't bother with the tensioner.

![]() ^^^This. I generally loosen mine from underneath. Makes life 1324089176142309x easier when putting the belt back on. Remove the undertray and get at it from there. Once you secure the box wrench, push towards the back of the car and slip the belt off the AC compressor (front of the engine, right at the bottom). A ratcheting box wrench works really well here.

| Not Ranked : 0 score btw, make sure and get yourself an oem belt...you'll save yourself unnecessary stress, cuss words, and time. i recently had my ac compressor pulley go bad, ruined a brand new oem belt. bought a dayco since autozone was closer, and it took me having to re-think wtf was wrong. i read on another thread aftermarket belts tend to be shorter, although not by much, but that little does help alot when u can't get it over. no matter how much i compressed the tensioner, i couldnt get the belt just far enough to slide over the water pump pulley. after not being able to find an oem belt locally, i went back and fully compressed the tensioner and actually got the dayco on by removing the power steering pump getting the belt over the top of the ps pulley, then pulling up on the pump, got the bolts back in and finally the dayco belt was on...funniest part of all, since its slightly shorter, the tensioner literally did not decompress. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I did this the other day. It was tough for me to get enough leverage to loosen the tensioner enough. I looped a ratchet strap through a box end wrench and hooked the other end towards the back of the car. Cranked her down, slid old belt off, new one on. Done

| Not Ranked : 0 score @isypsi what was your conlusion to your problem? I seem to have the exact same problem. ac pulley rattle with a grinding noise with ac off, with ac on when clutch on cycle resumes, pressure plate moves with pulley, with ac on and clutch cycle off however it behaves as if ac off conditions i mentioned. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I undo it by tilting the PS pump. Much easier IMO. Still a PITA to route belt as I took mine off CX-7 and had to look at my MS6 to figure out routing. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Got a question for you guys. I had a speed3 but sold it before I got a chance to put in the replacement AC compressor and clutch assembly I had bought. A year went by and I decided to sell the part on ebay to a mazdaspeed6 owner. Their mechanic said the part was different and wouldn't fit. There seems to be 2 different styles of AC compressors. Can you tell me which one you guys have on your speed6's? I've actually seen references to both. 129mm clutch: ![]() 105mm clutch: ![]() Thanks. |
