Oil Catch Can

Started noticing some smoke in the am while my car warms up so i guess its time to get on this...So, I was wondering if everyone could toss in their .02 on these catch cans (or others). I only did a quick google search and came up with these:

I liked these because of "window" tube showing when it needs to be driained:

I jst can't see spending around $200 on a OCC kit, if I can find a can for around $50 thats nice quality, then I would think I can find the tubing and clamps for under $150...

ebay has super cheap occ.
su sells some that are less expensive than 200...but not too much less expensive.

was looking on ebay right after I posted, but wasn't sure on the quality of them? They all look to be the same with someone elses brand put on them. Is that true?

an occ is an occ is an occ. i can't speak for the quality, but it's one of those parts that's not vehicle specific...
i think an ebay kit would be fine.

Couple important things to know when piecing shit from ebay cans. 1) hoses need to be able to handle the chemicals, but also the pressure. Cheap hoses will collapse, CEL out.

I pieced my shit with used Matt Damond Kits ($160 each new total for everything) from 2 used cans from his kits (bought on forums for $75-80), then bought 5/8 ID marine fuel hose from MSC Industrial ($35). I bought the check valves from Matt ($60) after deciding 2 shitty Mazda PCV's made less sense as 1 shitty PCV valve and a good check valve. Then all I needed was a bag of stainless hose clamps and a flared 5/8 brass male fitting from Home Depot ($30). 2 kits were made from all this hassle of piecing.

Make sure the ebay cans are 5/8 OD piping, not 3/8 or 1/2, as it will be a motherfucker to deal with. My Perrin OCC I bought at first, was 3/8, way too small, so I had to sell it for a loss.

Local guy has had luck with the ebay cans and pcv valves though. He has the bnoon bolt and the ptp pill thing (I cannot make fun or slam it, as it did seem to help the CX-7, but just wanted to get an OCC to be safe)

I posted pics in the how-to where I mounted it the can. Probably the best bet for you, too.

Nice! Corksport and CPE have invested a lot of $ into developing parts for the CX-7 market! Just need modders to invest back into their products too!

I definitely want to do an OCC, but really don't want to have to piece together a kit. I can wait a couple months if that's happening... have to look into it...

I can tell you I regret it, as it was a pain in the ass to find the hose that would work on my own. Then to deal with the rest, sucked. I still had to get stuff after I thought I was done. I like my kit from Matt Damond, since it was all I needed.

Ooops, my Corksport remark was meant for MS3's, didn't check the section lol. Since the engine is the same though, it might work either at the same place or somewhere close.

Someone send this thread to Corksport's guy here. This IS a product many CX-7 owners would buy I think. Not too much to make MS3 work for CX-7. Just need 5-6 feet of good hose, and a bracket.

We could make a Cx7 specific kit but we need a Cx7 to setup the bracket and get the hose lengths sorted out. We are going to be running a 3rd version of the catch can and doing an evaluation of which type performed best. After that we will go to production.

I checked out the kit on his website and for $60 to get the hoses and hardware looks like a deal. Then I can just get a can somewhere else to my liking (buget wise). The website didnt have a cx-7 kit so which kit should I ask for so that the hoses will be long enough?

Chances are, the hoses cannot handle the pressure. You also need a PCV/check valve too. Don't cheap out on a $20K+ car. Bad stuff can happen.

I just got my turbo replaced under warranty, seems like the sooner the better for getting the OCC and keeping my turbo clean. Gotta look into this more...

Check the how-to for my pics of placement. I can get better pics, if you want I used 5 feet or so of hose. My CX-7 s 1st gen, April 2006 build. One of the first.

The only negative thing about where mine is installed, is I need to attach a hose to the bottom of the can for draining.

Im trying to save money not cheap out...thought you said you used these kits, right? this hose and hardware kit is $60 comes with check valve and pcv...do you not think these hoses can handle the preasure??

Sorry about that, no, I was only refering to the can itself on ebay, not the hoses...so you would go with his hose/harware kit? Which one would give me pleanty enough hose to install on our set up? the 3 or 6?

Instead of just recirculating back into the intake, cant you just vta and elliminate the need for an occ? Assuming the hole in the intake will need plugging....

email Matt first let him know its for a cx7 and he will hook you up ,i got one (too cold to install right now) and it even came with instructions on a cd . Buy good proven shit and you wont regret it .
