Default 2011 CX-7 auto headlight retro?

I was wondering if just getting an auto headlamp stalk would plug n play as i see what looks to be the light sensor near the left dash speaker.

i verified that the BCM is the same on both options.

Yes I have a regular mirror. I notice a sensor on the dash real close to the front windshield. I always assumed that was the sensor for the auto lamps. My mother in laws cx9 has a sensor behind the mirror, but I'm about 95% sure that's for her rain sensing wipers. I forget to turn them off when I clean her windshield and they turn on everytime when I wipe the windshield at a gas station. Only does it when I get water on the windshield behind the mirror. I wanna say she also has a sensor on the dash by the windshield for her auto headlamps. Hers is a 2009 cx9 awd gt

i will try later today.

I thought these were the sensors, but i'm not sure. They look like little plastic caps.

mine is dome shaped near the left dash speaker but it looks like a blank. I need to stop by the dealer and check out one with the auto lights to get a better understanding.

thanks for the pictures.

i think i figured it out - the rain sensor on the windshield which is located behind the rearview mirror acts as the auto light sensor as well.

this is going to be tougher than i though - i hope the connector is up there above the map lights or ill be buying the DEI auto light kit.

definitely seems to be the more cost effective way to do so. Makes me 'kinda' wonder where mine is at. But i'm under the 'it works, so i'm not gonna worry about it' policy. My mother in-laws CX9 has that a set up similar to that picture you have. BUT she also has a little nub or something in the drivers side speaker by the window. The passenger side does not have this.

my climate control is right in front of my right knee when sitting in the drivers seat. That wouldn't really make any sense if it was on the dash, cuz the sun would give you false readings in the summer or all the time if you lived down south.

Did you ever install the DEI kit? Is it hard to do or is it fairly simple. I want to do this on my CX7 too. I forgotten to turn the lights off so many times lol.
