Default 2011 CX-7 - 37K, Pads look almost new??!!

So, yesterday I got new tires put on the 2011 CX-7 with 37K. We are relocating from Ohio to North Carolina and will be making a trip later this month.

I wanted to check the brakes while the car was up in the air. The pads, all the way around, must have 5-6cm left. The car feels like it's braking fine. My concern is that it feels as if brake pedal is softer, but I have had it up in the air twice in the last 3 months and both times the pads look great! One of those times was at the dealer.

Is there a chance I have an issue somewhere else, master cylinder maybe? Like I said, the car seems to be breaking okay.

Thoughts?

No one has any thoughts? Guess I will take it to the dealer and make sure they inspect it.

Pads are ok and it's braking okay.

So what is the problem exactly?

37K with pads that have 4-5cm of meat left seems to be a little long in tooth.

Here's an update. Yesterday, I was backing up slowly with the windows down and heard a distinct "clap" like a valve closing when I applied the brake. The noise came from the engine compartment. I pulled forward, and it did it again. As I hit the brake there was a distinct, "Click". As i was leaving our parking garage I had the windows down and tried listening for it again, this time going about 15-20 mph, and didn't hear it. When I got home, I pulled in the driveway, and didn't hear it as I slowed to a stop. I then backed up a little and then forward again, no noise. Now this morning, I tested it again. Backed up slowly and "click" upon stepping on the brake.

This is not a suspension or front end noise. It definitely sounds like a metal clack, like a valve closing.

Not sure.. but I am dropping it off at the dealer tonight for them to inspect tomorrow.

Driving next weekend to NC from Ohio and I want to make sure the brakes are sound, especially driving through the mountains of WV.

I live in Oberlin. I try to hang with the Mazda people in the area, but they are all in the Akron/Parma area. Be nice to see another 7 at the g2g's
