Default Nitto 420S really are as cool as everyone says
So I bit the bullet and the wife's CX-7 got 4 new Nitto 420S tires in the 255/55-18 for Christmas. The look killer, wider and ride so much better than the stock crap we took off. Not really new thread worthy but I figured instead of getting lost in other tire threads I would let it be known and join the 420S club. They were $141 each, shipped from Discount Tire Direct. My mechanic could not get a complete set in time for the Christmas gift that they were intended for. I ordered the on Monday and had them on Thursday, right before Christmas Eve. The ride so smooth and balanced out better than any other tires I have ever mounted. 2 tires took NO WEIGHT, one took .50 OZ and the other took .75 OZ. They still need a few more heat cycles but the mold release is almost gone and they are great. We will keep the rotated, get an alignment, and see how long they last.

How are the 420s for long highway runs? I found my Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 (blah blah blah blah) are very quiet on the highway (probably because it has that center rib)

Not bad - but I find that Mazdas typically transmit more road noise (I think they market this as Zoom Zoom rather than admit they're cheap ass bastards with the sound deadening!)

I agree with what Billsfan said.

Not bad. But the CX7 does transmit road noise more than other cars I have.

have 27000 on my nitto's an they still look new well pleased with them excellant in the rain also

My Nittos have lasted 40K+ miles and it is now time to replace them. Overall I have been happy with them except for the last 10K miles where the road noise became very loud.
Is there another tire with similar performance but is quieter? I am in Houston so I do not have to worry about snow.

Note these are onsale for $500 right now. I paid $524 but they are now $600 so not bad. If I had cash I would pick up another set but dont need them yet...

i'm currently on my 2nd set of 420s. we've had no issues and like having a bit wider of a tire. the first set lasted about 45k miles.
