Default Glovebox damper replacement how-to

Here's pics of the process of replacing the broken damper. Fist pic is my broken damper. You can see an 'R' on it; that's the side that faces the right/passenger side of the car when installed.

Next shot is the glove box assembled; you can see the damper connected (a screw you have to take out to replace it is also visible). Push that part away next time you take the glove box out so you don't break it, as seen in the next pic.

Once you have the glove box out, take out the four screws behind the glove box on the dash. Also take off the plastic nut up under dash in the footwell area. Then take off some of the door seal and pull away the plastic parts of the dash until you can access the screw holding the damper on.

Take out the screw, replace the damper and reverse the process.

Default Broken Glove Damper

This is awesome. I was going to go to the dealer because I could not find how to get the broken part off.

Thanks for the pics....

Just asking for a little help. Isn't that what these forums are for? To share, offer advice, and ask to be pointed in the right direction?

My damper on a 2007 CX-7 broke. I think the part number is EH456408X. Can someone confirm?

Much to my surprise my local Mazda dealer had the part for less than I found online - $15 CAD.

I was planning to install the part myself. However, when I showed the Mazda service department the broken piece, he agreed that a mechanic may have not taken enough care when the cabin filter was replaced. The dampener's loop was cracked in several places. To my surprise I wasn't charged for either the dampener or the time it took to install.

Installation was quick, too - less than ten minutes.

Thanks for your help, guys.
