How to install your CPE CAI on your CX-7

First the tools needed:

* 1/4" Ratchet
* 1/4" 8mm Socket
* 1/4" Short Extension
* 3/8" Ratchet
* 3/8" 10mm Socket
* 3/8" 12mm Socket
* 3/8" Short Extension
* Flat Blade Screw Driver
* Phillips Blade Screw Driver


First step is turn the tires to the full left. Turn off engine and remove the negative terminal cable from its post. Remove positive post cover as this will get in the way of removing the air box.

Next remove the Engine Cover/Intercooler Duct.

With a flat blade screw driver remove the two clips at the front of the duct.
Once these are off pull toward you to pull cover off of studs on firewall. Place cover and clips somewhere safe.

Next remove the two 10mm bolts that hold down the ram air intake to the radiator support.

Next remove the clip holding the MAF wiring to the air box using a flat bladed screw driver.

Next using a small Phillips screw driver unscrew the MAF sensor from the Air Box and putting the two screws in a safe place tuck the MAF and it wiring up out of the way for now. Note the hole in MAF runs parallel to the intake air flow as you will need to install this later this way on the new intake tube.

Next using a 10mm socket or Phillips screw driver loosen the hose clamps holding the intake tube to the intake manifold and the air box.

Using a small flat blade screw driver remove clips on the plastic tube that is inserted in air intake tube. Be careful not to damage this as this will be needed later.

Next remove the rubber air intake tube. Once out carefully remove the plastic tube inserted in the the intake tube. Twisting it as you pull being careful not to damage it as you will be using this again later.

Now carefully lift out the air box from the car.

Now with a 12mm socket and 3/8" ratchet loosen the top nut for the resonator box.

Now do the same for the one right below it. You will need to find it by feel. It can also be reached from below but it is easier from above.

Now remove the 3 10mm screws holding the front of the inner fender onto the front of the car. These are underneath just behind the air dam..

Next remove the 3 clips using a flat bladed screw driver to pry and a Phillips screw driver to unscrew that hold the fender liner front half to the car. Pry it out so you can flex it down to gain access to the resonator in the fender well.

Next unbolt the 12mm nut (the third and last one) that holds the resonator on the three studs. Now pull resonator off the studs. Move in down and out between fender liner and body beneath the car.

Now you are ready to install the CP-E CAI into your car! Hurray...

First make sure the boot and intake are clean on the inside as any dirt here will go into your engine.

First step is to install the rubber intake hose adapter that connects the intake manifold to the CP-E CAI tube.

(TIP: Squirt some WD40 on your finger and lube the inside of all hoses and the new air cleaner before installing them as this makes them much easier to get on and it will evaporate later on its own)

Put small hose clamp on the small end and the larger hose clamp on the large end and install it loosely onto the intake manifold. You will need to move it a little to align it with the intake tube later so it needs to be loose right now.

Now remove ground wire from frame next where the intake box and resonator met. Once this is removed install the double studded rubber spacer from CP-E here by screwing it down. Ground can go on between it and the frame, or between the nut and the Intake tube flange (where I put it) as both will ground fine.

Now install the MAF sensor on the intake tube so the hole in the end is parallel to the air flow with your small Phillips screwdriver.

Now install the Intake tube into the wheel well first and onto the stud you just install on the flange. Next fit it onto the adapter hose you already installed. The adapter hose may need to be rotated to get the intake to align right. Once you got it in position place a washer and 10mm nut on stud and tighten with 10mm socket.

Now tighten up the hose clamps on the adapter hose. I used an 8mm socket on my 1/4" socket.

Next install the hose on the intake tube that came with the CP-E kit. Mine was a bit long so you may need to cut it after you do a few trial fits to get it so the hose does not sit up so high it hits the engine cover. It is a trial and fit sort of thing. Once it is the correct length install hose and hold it in place with spring hose clamp onto the intake tube. Next install the plastic tube you removed earlier from the stock intakes rubber hose into the top of the tube you just installed. Hold it in place with the hose clamp provided by CP-E.

Next, install the CP-E Prefilter over the air cleaner.

Now install the air cleaner onto the end of the tube in the fender well using the hose clamp provided using the 8mm ratchet to tighten the hose clamp.

Now put finder liner back in place and re-install clips and screws into the same positions you removed them from.

Pump your brakes 8 times to insure all charge is gone.

Re-install negative battery cable to negative post on the battery 10mm socket.

Re-install positive battery cable cover

Re-install engine cover, intercooler ducting by first putting it on the studs on the fire wall and then popping the clips back in on the front.

Start you car drive it around. Turn it off and then back on and now all the TCS etc lights should be off.

Reprogram your windows by holding the window control on the door of the window up until you hear a click.

Reset clock

Reset radio pre sets..

Good to go..
