Default HKS Type-1 Turbo Timer tac and speedo incompatible with 09 MS3?

I got my TT installed on my 09 MS3 at a custom body shop (786 Motoring) in Houston, and apparently the guaged wires (or something) of the speedo and tac aren't compatible with the HKS Type-1...? Has anyone heard of this or had this problem? All I know is they weren't able to do it and I think it had to do with the gauges of the wires. I didn't expect it. Most of my features on the TT are basically useless now because of this.

any help would be great
thanks

i have a type-0 that i installed myself and it works fine, not sure what other features the type-1 has. you dont need to splice into the speedo with mine, its just a security option, but if you tap the e-brake signal its not like anyone can drive away. if you need those wires connected go to a shop that specializes in remote start and they should know what needs to be done

so you are saying that the size of the wires is stopping you from connecting them to the TT?

I need to check back with the shop and ask exactly what went wrong. I had to leave right then anyways to make it back to class, they said I could come back anytime. I was just seeing if any one had a similar problems. I've never heard of this before and I'm pretty sure it'll work.

From what they said is "the gauges in these new cars won't allow us to hook up your speedo and tac". They specialize in skylines, 240sx's, drifters. They've installed TT's several times, just not on MS3s.

I'll call them later today and find out exactly what the problem was

I think they are refereeing to the speed and tac being part of the CANBUS. Without those wires the TT will not function in full auto mode. It will however function in manual mode.

I have a Greddy full auto TT and had the same problem. It works perfectly fine, just no auto mode.

I have the Blitz DTT which has a boost function. It uses boost as a reference for the automatic mode. If you want more functionality, sell the HKS and get the Blitz, especially if you dont have a boost gauge.

Yeah my timer works fine but only with the 2 manual modes, no auto mode either. The only problem with that is my TT only displays voltage and can't determine speed/distance/rpms/heat, etc. So I'm not able to do 0-60, 1/4mi, speed warning, RPM shift beep, or any of those functions that I was looking forward to using.

Do you have any of those functions while still not having auto?

it doesnt have any speed functions. it has a lap timer and stopwatch and boost gauge. I can use my dashhawk for any of the other speed functions though.

Ok, i called the shop and got a little more info. I wrote down as he was speaking, but I missed a lot, so these aren't his true words.

Apparently the MS3 converts the original speed signal, or data, at a certain point, then transfers it to the speedo. So the original data runs somewhere and is converted by something and then THAT data is displayed.

I know it's vague, but is there somewhere after or before the conversion point where the signals are compatible with the TT?

bear with me guys haha

it should still work...

call HKS tech support and ask for Mike Quan, he practically invented those timers.

oh and the 09 MS3 is no different than any other year ECU wise so if someone has gotten it to work on an 07-08 it will work on an 09 too.

Help us out champ.
There is no tach wire to splice. The tach signal in in the CANBUS.

Are you using an injector signal?

Don't know if you've found your answer yet, but just in case, this helped me. I have the same timer. This won't get you all the features yet, but it'll at least get you the auto timer function and the rpms. Good luck.

How to install TurboTimer with PICS!!

EDIT: BTW, I know it's a different timer in the first posts, but go to page two or three, and they talk about the HKS type-1.
