oh yea i have the 255lph because i was planning e85, i also have an adjustable fpr running a 60psi base pressure with the ability to raise 1:1 with a boost reference. Im not using the rising rate portion of the FPR though. I purposely overbuilt the fuel system so if/when i go big i dont have to mess with the fuel system.

Havent updated this in a while because i have just been enjoying this thing, turned it up to 10psi and have been DDing it since my dads neighbor backed into the speed
tuesday i decided to take a trip and headed for my grandparents house in West Virginia. Car ran fantastic all the way there, parked it and hungout for a while. came out to this, who needs brakes anyway.
so i borrowed their truck and came back home to find a new master cylinder. along the way one of the miataturbo guys pointed out my mistake, aperently i missed or a sync got screwed up setting the timing back to using the table so it was locked in at 10 degrees at all times. weird thing is it was still faster than my old car and was faster than a couple of buddies cars. their in for some trouble when i get the master cylinder fixed.

Damn, I hope you didn't mess anything up running 10* like that for extended cruises. Cruise cells it's normally in the 30 something degree range. Not trying to make you paranoid or anything-- but running very low timing will drive EGTs way up as well. I'm guessing you if went that long without issues, you'll be just fine lol. Lesson learned I guess!

Yea I think everything is fine. I remember setting it back to the table. it didn't sync or ssomething. I imagine the car will be a whole hell of a lot faster now, and it wasn't slow stuck at 10degrees.

I went back to my grandparents and switched out master cylinders, got a heat shield fabed up, added some cool tape, fixed my retard mistake timing. this is what I came up with

Eventually I might add a turbo blanket and exhaust wrap. Not 100% sure I want to do that or not though. It drove fantastic all the way home.

The car has been running great, im a bit worried about destroying the 5 speed because im not easy on it. Happened to go to a ohio miata owners meet and was chatting with a guy who wants to swap from a 6 speed to the 5 speed. So im probably going to see what he wants in addition to my 5 speed. Im going to read up on the swap and what I need to to it, as well as look for a 3.9 or 3.6 gear set.

Why in the world does he want to get the 5 speed? Either way...jump on that!!!

The swap is very easy, really nothing to it. The 5 speed and 6 speed shifters are different. The staters are different, but work fine either way (I'm using 5 speed starter with mine). Easiest thing to do would just be swap all that stuff.

Since you have an NA, there might be a few wiring differences, but should be easy work to do with the trans off the car. I have an NB so it was straight plug and play wiring wise. I'm sure there's many many 6 speed into NA miata guides/write ups.

While you have the transmission out of the car.... I'd inspect/replace a few things.

You will certainly need/want the two shifter boots replaced:

INSULATOR (NA01-64-481B) - $23.60 - NA0164481B
BOOT,DUST (M513-17-480A) - $39.38 - M51317480A

Other things you may not need, but maybe a good idea to replace while you're there:

COVER,DUST (FE51-16-214A) - $9.95 - FE5116214A
SLAVE CYLINDER (PBRNA0141920C) - $29.95 - PBRNA0141920C

I'll let ya know if I think of anything else.

Isn't the 6speed a little weaker than the 5speed? I had a 2002 6speed for a few years and remember reading that, may have it backwards.

other way around. 6 speed is much stronger than the 5 speed. I blew my 5 speed at around 250-270whp.

Back to OP real quick... you probably have 4.1 gears in your car now, so yeah, you will definitely want some longer gears at some point. 3.9s are great for a stock motor car... once you start moving to north of 300whp, at some point they become a bit short though and the 3.63s are the obvious solution... but they are quite rare and $ as you probably already know.

Hes got a 4.3 rear drive on a stock 02. He wants to do autocross so less shifting is key. I have the 4.1 gears, I drove an msm last night to get an idea what it will be like. 1st was practically useless though.

I take it he had a 5 speed originally to have that 4.3 rear? I had 3.9 gears with 5 speed originally on my stock engine turbo setup. It was actually quite nice, but the 5 speed just can't take it, sadly.

The plan for this car is to begin to prepare it to be on track by next season. I have a bunch of things to address before hand. Better cooling, brakes, some custom seat mounts, rollbar. Im 6'4" so I have to definitely have a low seat on the floor to be able to pass inspection.

Speedway remodeled a station close enough to me and installed E85 pumps. so i switched back. Put about 20 miles on the tune and did a data log for Virtual dyno and came up with this. im fairly happy with the results. Afr's are a bit jumpy due to the fresh tune.

Got the car aligned, the rear needs new control arm bushings. all they could get it to do was -2.7 camber shooting for about -2. it took about 10 minutes to get it up on the rack becuse the ride height is set at 12in center of hub to fender.

blasted Through The hills last weekend with some fellow miata owners. Had a fantastic time, and the car ran flawlessly. Pictures from said event
\

In other news, the speed 6 is fixed after about 2 months of fighting with insurance companies.

So with the season coming to an end I'm starting to consider my options for winter mods. So far I have
1.6 dash swap
Clean up engine bay/ paint
minor wire tuck
3.6 gears
hopefully a 6speed
Current wheels getting neogens
Cspence style hidden hid headlights?
Control arm bushings
Brakes?

Funds permitting
Bigger radiator
Water/meth
Rollbar
Track time

I'm a bit worried about not making enough power to need the 3.6 gears any thoughts?

I'm guessing you currently have the 4.1 gears? 6 speed and 3.9 gears is pretty nice up to 300whp I'll say. The 3.9 gears route will be much cheaper most likely. You can pick up a whole torsen 3.9 pumpkin and just swap em..sell your current setup and probably won't spend much money in the end. If you go 3.6 gears, you gotta buy the gears, and then the labor (will probably be just as much as the gears) to swap it all over. Just something else to think about.

Well the 3.9 full pumpkin is like 6-900, the 3.6 gears are going to cost ballpark 300. Unsure about the install labor but say same cost as gears so 600 total not sure which one is the better investment.

Hate to burst your bubble, you're going to have a helluva time trying to get 3.63 gears for $300. From mazda motorsport development, you're looking at over $700 for the set. Same from any vendor getting a new set.

I have a line of a brand new set that just became available from a friend stateside, not sure how much he wants for it, but it's brand new, and he knows what they're worth.

The only way to get a set at $300-400 is to import a set from Japan or Australia, without at least one other person splitting shipping with you, it won't be $300-400. I have a source in Australia if you're interested.

Also, all the seals which "should" be replaced when swapping the gears, comes out to just over $200.

there is/was a group buy going on with a guy down under. i havent heard anything about it for a while. so i might just go for the 3.9, theres a guy selling just the r&p for 200 which seems like a decent deal. i can get a hell of a deal on the seals and such. im not sure about who can set the backlash and such in my area though.

Yea, I'm having the same issue atm, just about every diff shop I find locally actually specializes in off-road diffs.

There's probably a decent chance I'll sell my 3.6 set of gears here before long, if you're not in a huge hurry. I also visit Ohio pretty often and could just bring it up with me some time (not sure where you normally live, you have 2 locations on your profile).

MIATAROADSTER 3.3:1 RING AND PINION GROUP BUY

Happy holidays, everyone!

As some of you may remember, a 3.3:1 gear set has been a pet project of mine since at least 2008. So I'm happy to announce that I've finally found a reputable and relatively affordable source to manufacture race-caliber 3.3:1 ring and pinion sets for the Miata market.

A minimum of 15 paid orders are required to make this happen, but based on the number of inquiries I've already received, this will happen.

If you're active on multiple forums, you'll see me promoting this group buy on all of the ones that MiataRoadster sponsors. If interested in participating, you need contact me only once!

This is a bit complicated, so please carefully read the following then email me if you'd like to place an order or want clarification on anything:

BENEFITS OF THE 3.3:1 RATIO:
See the attached chart comparing various final drive ratios and transmissions. (Thanks to Brian Kelley.)

DELIVERY SCHEDULE:
The manufacturer will provide me with a sample gear set to install and test by approximately the end of February 2014. Once it's approved, it will take about one month for the production parts to be completed. So best case scenario, don't expect to receive your set before March-April 2014. If you don't think you're patient enough to pay up front and wait that long, then please don't.

GROUP BUY PRICE:
$550 (MSRP after this initial group buy is expected to be at least $650)

DEALER PRICING:
Dealers are welcomed to contact me for wholesale pricing for group buy orders and future orders assuming there's enough demand to make these gears available in an ongoing manner.

PAYMENT SCHEDULE:
To participate in the group buy, your payment in full for the gears (payment for optional upgrades is not required initially) must be received by Monday morning 12/16/13.

PICTURES:
As the actual parts have not been made yet, the next best thing I can show you for illustration is the image above of a 3.6:1 Mazda gear set, which looks identical to the planned 3.3:1 except for the number of teeth on the pinion and ring gears.

SPEEDOMETER & ODOMETER DISPLAYS:
There's no solution for displaying accurate speedometer and odometer readings for this gear ratio with the mechanical speedo drive system used on the NA, so consider this gear ratio as for "off road use only." For the electronic speedo drive system used on the NB and NC, there are aftermarket options like the YellowBox synchronizer to modify the signal between the stock sender and the instrument cluster display.

TECHNICAL SPECS:
Location of manufacturer: Taiwan
Manufacturing process: forging, CNC milled
Material: 8620 Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum Steel
Treatments: carburized (AKA case hardened) heat treatment
Hardness: ISO 6508-1 Rockwell C Scale HRC 60-63
Tensile strength range: 700-1100 MPa

UPGRADE OPTIONS:
When we're closer to the ship date for the gears, I'll post a menu of optional parts and services that can be ordered later, as a separate purchase from the gear set. I can supply genuine Mazda rebuild components and kits (bearings, seals, input flange/harmonic dampener, etc.), ARP fastener kits, machined billet crush tube, reinforcement saddle caps, YellowBox, WPC treatment, cryogenic treatment, coatings, and installation services for NA, NB, and NC.

WARRANTY:
These are competition parts and, as such, no warranties are implied or offered. No refunds or returns will be processed once parts are shipped. In the unlikely case of a manufacturing defect preventing proper setup of the gears, a replacement gear set will be provided ASAP at my expense once the original parts are returned to me for inspection and deemed defective by me.

TO ORDER:
Email me at Bill@MiataRoadster.com with your complete real name, your forum name (so I can cross-reference your identities and not count you multiple times), your complete shipping address, and I'll send you a quote to review and approve. Once you approve your quote, I'll send you payment instructions.

Thanks for your interest!

Bill

well all the go fast goodies are going on hold for now, while i get all the safety and track stuff ready. hopefully hit the first track day at mid-ohio in may and then in september i will be taking a vacation and heading out with a group from ohio to hit the Mazda Lugana Seca track event. 5300 miles round trip, and a little over a week of traveling and hitting some of the miata venders shops while there. should be a good time.

my buddy came and picked up the car today, its sitting at his shop ready to drop the trans out tomorrow and see what happened. while its there i have a hard dog hardcore DD roll bar and a 90 dash to put in, as well as taking the soft top out for good. we are also putting the 6speed in i picked up for a cool $450 and some small cleanup items i want to get accomplished.
Im looking into brake pads and i cant really decide what i want to do, im leaning toward Hawk HPs because it is a street car but will see some track time as well. Input?
