First Mazdaspeed in 9s. 9.94@149.5

Been a long winter here in the North East, but finally got to see some decent weather and get the cars back out. First pass of the season and went 9.94@149.5.

Next step will be get the car in compliance with NHRA chassis certification as well as complete NHRA racing license so we can keep chopping away at those 9 second time

Congrats Justin! Hell of a pass. Was the car set to kill or was the tune dialed back a bit?


Also, because I need to be a pest, what kind of head work is done on this engine? I know you changed a lot but I'm curious if you got the head ported, cams, springs?

Car technically isn't on kill or dialed back sort of speak haha. Its what I'd call a happy medium. We never pushed it on the dyno. It made an effortless 821hp uncorrected, 807 with STD correction factor.

Head work is the same head work we have been using. Mostly bowl work with some mild runner work on each side (hand porting) and then Valve job with supertech valve springs. Nothing fancy. Running Piper stage 2 cams.

First i want to say congrats to the record that made a little tear drop from my eye..... at the same time a little fustration because it wasnt a 6 first but oh well its still a speed family. is the block sleeved? sorry if this has been spoken and about and no i am not going to ask for you to break down the internals of your engine unless you want ...lol nah you dont have to as i have a fully built motor with carrrilo rod and Cp pistons and ported head. Just wanted to know if your motor was sleeved or not..

I am running LA sleeves. Then for internals, they are manley I-beams, Manley pistons, and upgraded wrist pins. Same motor I was on last year. I tore the motor down over the winter to inspect it, everything looked good, and measured good, so I put a new set of rings and bearings in and hopefully be good for this season. But if she breaks she breaks. Part of racing.
