Default First time drag racing and I'm in love

Was at a local car show today hosted at the Toronto Motorsports Park and decided to try out the drag racing Test & Tune.

The first run went like crap and the second run was my best one of the day ( 13.898 @ 104.09 with one passenger ). Every run after that kept going worst, my car was really hear soaked due to the TMIC, i tried battling this by placing bags of ice on the intercooler in between runs but did not seem to help much.

Also was having trouble every single time getting 3rd gear in, going to be replacing trans fluid for the FoMoCo one.

Overall, was a great experience and I will be going back to abuse the car more often

Vids for your pleasure

If you can cut down that 60ft to something like a 1.8, you'll be deep into the 13's, and probably knocking on the door of high 12's.

I hope I can reach that, I am still working on my launch, these tires just kept spinning for days.

Any advice to get that 60ft lower?

Let 1st spin for a second, but then short shift into 2nd. The trick is finding the sweet spot between wasting too much time in 1st and bogging 2nd.

Also, the TMIC isnt the problem, the stock hood scoop actually works VERY well, the issue is the intake manifold - where BATs are measured- heatsoaking. put effort into keeping heat out of there, Tigs, coolant reroute, ice...

Thanks!, I will try this next time.

I was thinking on either switching my TMIC for a FMIC but I'd probably go the meth route for now.

yeah, the meth will take you further. You wouldn't believe some of the logs people have sent me from the track, no intercooler is going to help sitting in hot staging lanes, the intake manifold becomes an oven.

That makes sense. I did try the ice on the intercooler but now i see why it didn't help at all

I also need to get a proper tune

Sell your car and buy a car that is actually halfway decent for drag racing.

In all seriousness, congrats on getting hooked. (Well, hooked on the act of drag racing, because you obviously didn't hook at the track haha). I love when people actually drive the crap out of their cars like they are meant to be driven. The enjoyment of driving and modifying our cars is why we are all here.

(Sorry, I really just wanted to make some really bad drag racing jokes).

Don't change the tranny oil get a good set of mounts.
Launch 3200 rpm slipping clutch until you get rolling good then rev 1st out bounce limiter once and slam second. Very hard on clutch but got me many 2.0 60s on street tires.
Seat time is best mod. Keep it up!

Were you running stock tire pressures? Also what was running 16's next to you? I'm going to guess a 4-door civic with a fart can.

haha! Well I've been wanting to track the car for quite some time, but the price difference between doing some open lapping vs drag is huge, so I decided to try it and well, I am going back this Friday again

At my best run, tires were at 32 psi, after that, some guys there told me to lower the psi to 26, which I did, but it didn't seem to help my 60ft time.

And lmao, yes, it was a csx type S with full " JDM PARTS FROM JAPAN " , car was clean tho, not rice at all

Do not lower pressure. The side walls of those street tires are not designed to flex like a drag radial or slick does. You will get less contact patch when they are deflated. Run sidewall pressure.
