Volk Racing 17x10 +44 ???

Hey MSF!

Found a set of used VR CE28N for an incredible price and couldn't say no. Current VR set-up (17x9 255/40) has issues with grip at low speeds / tight corners. I'll be lucky to get 4 track days out of these R888R's.

Leaning towards possibly going softer with Toyo RR 275/40 or run NT01 275/40. Nitto's are cheaper and from what I've heard are considered a comparable compound to the old R888, so that's possibly a step down ... ?

Anyone have experience running this size wheel? What size tire did you decide to run?

I imagine some cutting / reshaping of the rear wheel well area may be necessary.

What Suspension do you have? I ran 255/40/17 bfg rivals (run wide) on a 17x9 +48 (+43 after a 5mm spacer) and I had 2-3mm of clearance between the wheel and my suspension (Bilstein B8 + swift). If I ran the setup you're looking at i'd probably be hitting the strut. Look at your current setup and your clearance to the outside fender and suspension and keep a note on how much space you have left. Then plug the specs into willtheyfit.com and it'll show you how much closer or further away you are.

I've run on NT01 before and I like them as they grip well and grip even better once you wear away at the sipes. They seemed to last forever and I heat cycled them before the tread wore out.

I haven't run Toyo RR but some local guys at my HPDE days run them and have no complaints aside from cost.

Bilstein B8 + Swift, front camber plates, adj rear camber / toe, extended studs, collection of 3-12mm spacers, rolled / pulled fenders, etc. It may finally be time to get some coilover's.

2014- 18x8.5 +48 245/40's Dunlop's and custom alignment. Not exactly 100% sure on the offset but should be very close and I haven't looked for my old alignment specs.

2019- 17x9.0 +42 255/40 with Toyo's and custom alignment plus 10mm spacers front / 3mm rear.

After checking out WIF.com, it's half decent in theory.

I just use it to get a guesstimate on how much further or away the wheel will be from the strut or fender.

I wonder if you'll have issues with rubbing the fender liners (I ended up just removing mine for hpde days) when running 17x10 or the tire catching the fender mid turn during a bump.

Keep us updated when you do mount some tires and/or test fit that set you couldn't pass up on

Will do! The spec / visual comparison was extremely helpful imo.

I also remembered, circa '16 I ran my VR 17x9.0 +42 with 255/40 Hankook RS4's and no spacers but did have rub issues on bumps / very hard turns in the rear. Fronts I think will be much easier to fit, esp if I get some quality coilovers. Car is my DD, so doubtful I'll be up to adding an overfender just to fit the rears.

Although I feel like there's some potential for that to look half decent.

Just test fit a set of wheels to add to this discussion. I put my set of 17x9 +43 wheels with wide 255/40s (probably 265/75 wide) on a gen2 and it was rubbing hard on the rear right side wheel liner (that protects the gas filler area). The 17x10 +44 wheels you have look like they sit in closer to that liner by 13mm. You'll most likely need a pull or overfenders + spacers

Update: plan has changed. Most likely moving to KW coilovers, front helm joint SB links and match a reverse stagger set with spacers as needed, etc. Been throwing around a few ideas but haven't had much time recently to mess with the Speed3.

Something like 17x10 275/35 front; 16x8 225/45 rear.
