stronger gears? the actual gears lose all their teeth I have had an entire set of teeth from 5th gear in my hand once. what mods do you have on the car? I see a FMIC in the pic. you can take the 5th gear cover off with the tranny still in the car in like an hour max and check the gear and syncros otherwise you may have blown your diff but that typically takes the whole tranny with it.

I have a 3 inch catback exhaust and an injen intake, syncronic bov, welded lsd from protege garage, split second afc, thunder turbo manifold, and the front mount. I don't have that many mods yet.

hey I probably welded that damn diff... I would say if you don't think the gears are gone then try different tranny fluid if that doesn't solve it take off the side cover (black) and check the 5th gear and synchro.

3rd and 5th gear synchronizers are bad in my opinion.

If its hard to shift even after a rebuild check the brake fluid cap for any cracks. these cracks will prevent the system from getting the proper presure it needs which will cause hard shifting or no shifting no matter how much you press the clutch. For the MS3 guys that MSP uses brake fluid for the clutch.

Also if your brake fluid is over filled it will cause the same issue. Take for example you recently replaced all 4 brake pads but forgot to take yoru brake fluid cap off. The fluid will be pushed up into the cap.

3rd gear is the most common to have issues

Is it a rod and spring then? If not a shift cable, what would it be called?

Its called a shift linkage from my understandings but it is far from a shift cabel setup.
