Default Ilder Pulley?

What is it? Cars been making a wired "clanking" noise when idling for like a month now. Finally took it to get looked at (dealership) and they said its an idler pulley. They said since its an external engine part its not covered under the powertrain warrenty. That being said I wrecked it a couple months ago, front end damage, and they seem to be working with me pretty well to try to relate it to the damage done to get the ins to pay for it. I just don't exactly know what it is and what's its purpose. When they said it wasn't covered IDK if it could have been mod related they didn't mention the first thing about them when we talked about getting it fixed under warrenty. Hopefully the Ins will pay for it, if not I'm out 300 bucks and they charged me 100 just to look at it....

I garentee you it's the tentioner belt pulley! I had the same problem for months with clanking at idle and under small load! I got my fixed under warranty with all my mods on my car! Damn they charge you $100 just to look!! That's insane! Don't take no for an answer or just go to a different dealer! It's a common problem!

300 bucks for parts and labor and the 100 I paid would go toward it. and for urs that covered under warrenty how many miles did you have? 52xxx so all I have is the powertrain. IDK they seemed to be working with me pretty well (to word it write to have the best possibility to get the ins to cover it so I'd get reimburst if thats the case) They sent the quote to my ins today and they will review it and let me know what they determine.

unless the insurance agent is a complete moron, the tensioner wont be covered. You would have to still have bumper to bumper to get that covered under warranty.

See if there are any cheap aftermarket tensioners available and do it yourself. If only the mazda version is available, then you might want to let them do it depending on the price since youre already $100 into it. My gf's jetta had the tensioner go bad and it was $140 at the dealer.
