Intermittent Starting issue

Hey guys,

Seems like it been years since I last posted here but I need some guidance. I have 2006 Speed6 with 89K miles. The issue I am having is that every once in while when I go to start her up, shes starts, revs up and then immediately dies.

It can take anywhere from 1 to 30 restarts before it finally "catches" and everything is fine. This first happened 2 yrs ago and lasted about a week and then it seemed to just fix itself. Then about a month ago it started again with more frequency and now it happens about 3-4 times a week. The only thing that has changed since between then and now is that I had an ECU reflash (loss of power) done about 3 weeks ago.

I had been avoiding that reflash because I had always heard bad things about it AND because I have a custom UniChip piggyback tune but the dealer snuck it in on me. Anyway, I dont know if thats the root of the issue but figured full disclosure is a good thing when asking for help.

As far as additional details:
- I run 92 Octane (highest available in Wa State);
- Im still on the original spark plugs;
- I never had a CEL during one of these episodes;

- Once Ive had one of these episodes and finally get it started, it MAY sputter a bit during a rev to 3K-4k rpm (doesnt happen all the time). If I shut it off and immediately start it again, that issue goes away and it revs just fines (idle to WoT).
- When it happens it always seems to be during a cold start (aka when the car has been off for a couple hours). That said, I have never had it happen when first starting it in the morning.

What Ive done so far (limited)
- Verified that there are no CEL's via Dashhawk;
- Verified good MAF voltage via Dashhawk.
- Rest the ECU last night. Car started up and ran fine this morning.

Mods:
- Basically just Stage 1 stuff: SU Test Pipe. MazdaSpeed CAI, VTCS delete, MagnaFlow CATBACK, Oil Catch Can, RPM Street Spring.

Well, thats about it I guess. If anyone has any recommendations I am all ears!
