(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score So, long story short life got in the way of my 2006 MS6 rebuild. I crapped the engine about 3 years ago (VVT, bent every single valve), towed it home and it sat for awhile (renovated the house, had a kid, renovated some more, soon to be having another kid). Somewhere in there I did rebuild the engine and reassembled it all. The rebuilt sat in my garage out of the shell for about 9 months (I know, its embarassing haha). I finally got the damn thing back into the shell and reconnected everything, or so I think. I went to crank it for the first and got nothing. Dash lights come on...no immobilzer thank God. When I turn the key to start all dash lights go out but no action. Well, I do hear a relay clicking which I assume is the ignition relay but I get nothing from the starter. I tried connecting both my handheld scanners and neither one can establish a connection. I took the starter out and tested it as per the shop manual and even took it to go a garage where they test starters using the same methods...just a sanity check. I checked all the fuses and nothing is blown. i went back over all connectors and grounds to ensure they were tight and they are. The battery is new...or was at this point its been sitting for a couple months. Im stumped at this point....and I know I have been away from the forums for awhile but any advice is appreciated

| Not Ranked : 0 score If you turn key and dash light goes out I'd assume a battery/power issue. Also verify all is good with the clutch safety switch, this can cause a no start if the car doesn't think the clutch is pressed

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Thanks for the quick reply... So, I went back over the fuses thinking I had to be missing something since I wasnt hearing the fuel pump at all and thought that was strange. I must have at some point had a brain fart and removed the 30a fuel pump fuse and never put it back. I replaced it just now with the spare and got it cranking. Now to get it started... Do I need to prime the HPFP? Or doesn't it prime itself once you turn the key to the on position?

| Not Ranked : 0 score the lpfp primes, you should hear that. The hpfp, I am ignorant here... I do not think it primes past what the lpfp does, since the hpfp is mechanical it cant do much without the cams spinning

| Not Ranked : 0 score You can prime the fuel system by holding the gas pedal all the way down when cranking. Car will crank but not start. |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score So for anyone that is interested a quikc update... Got the beast started and loving the new NVH from deleting the balance shaft /sarc Noticed a lot of smoke from back of engine near exhaust manifold. Found the Oil return pipe leaking. That was fun to clean up and replace the gaskets. FML. How anyone swaps those without pulling the turbo is beyond me and even then. Getting that damn pipe to line up will keeping the gasket in place and trying to thread those tiny ass bolts in with the PTO in the way... Went to drive it for the first time and the rear brakes were shot from sitting for so long. After replacing those, pedal got soft as i pulled out of the driveway. Quick reverse to bleed air from all the lines. Finally went to go test the new brakes and got the awesome p0016 code. Checked with my obd scanner and saw spark advace was 3.5 deg. I believe its supposed to be around 10 at idle? Will pull timing cover to verify mechanical timing. Im hoping its a CKP sensor issue and not timing. I really do not want to have redo it.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Hang in there man lol....sorting out all the small issues involved with putting in a motor are a pain in the ass but it looks like you are on the right track.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Well just got back into the car. Pulled VC, put TDC Pin in and rotated crank to TDC #1 . It all looks good. Cam lobes are oriented properly up and pointing towards each other slightly. Went to verify Crank Pulley timing (20th tooth)....im off by one fucking tooth. Not even...half a tooth if you play with the CKP positioning. Im debating leaving it until i can atleast break the engine in and get the bugs (and multitude of spiders that have made the undercarraige their home) out. Does anyone know what the risk is being off one tooth? i know the ECM will throw the code and i know it wont run as well as it could but is there any risk of mechanical damage? im trying to think it through and explore all the possibilities but other than smooth driving i dont see the risk? But there are alot more smarter people here than me when it comes to this stuff. Any insight is appreciated...thanks everyone reading this.
