Default Question about do it yourself oil changes under warranty.

On my 09 MS3, the first time (3k mi.) I let Mazda do my oil change b/c it was free. After I got it back, I checked the oil and it was at the VERY BOTTOM of the fill line. So I added half a quart to get it to the middle of the fill line. But that worried me. So since then, I've done my own.

But with all the blown engines and Mazda saying you have to prove your oil changes, how does one do this exactly? I have kept all my receipts for oil and filter's... but I have bought in mass a couple times. Meaning I bought 10 quarts of oil here. Then a couple 5 quarts jugs there, and a filter for it here and there, sometimes with the oil, once on it's own I think. Anyhow, I just throw all those in my glove department and haven't worried. The thing is, the dates are rather erratic, and for one oil change to the next, I have used oil that I bought all at once back earlier in the year.

Just wondering, am I supposed to like, wait till it's time to change the oil, then go down and only buy 5.5 quarts (err 6) and the filter and that's it? Then wait till the next change?

The reason I ask is b/c I usually wait and catch the good stuff (GC 0w-30, PP 5w-30, or M1 0w-40 and SynPower 5w-30) on sale then buy in bulk for my car, my wifes truck and my daughters car and set it all aside in the garage for later. But it's usually all on one receipt.

So if something ever happens, am I safe? I can produce all the receipts no problem, but it's for a bunch of oil and filters at different times that don't correlate to the dates I changed the oil.

p.s. I've kept my mods light and easy. I can put everything back to stock in a couple hours.

Yeah I think I'm done with modding until the warranty is up. Right now the mods are all simple stuff I can change out with ease. The only thing I'm considering is an AP with a dyno tune at the COBB Plano place, since that should make it safer and it can be "unmarried" and put back to stock in 30 minutes, or so I hear.

I do the same thing, buy bulk. I just keep a record of the date and mileage of oil changes. I think if you have the corresonding amount of oil and filters on receipt, you will be fine.

By the way, mazda can still tell the ecu was flashed when you unmarry the AP.
