So now its time to get some new ram. After my build i re-used the ram i had from my old computer which i upgraded not to long before it died. On my old computer I was running 32bit XP Pro so it ran fine. But on the new system im running 64 XP Pro so it never ran properly. Can someone suggest which ram i should buy? Probably be getting like 4GB, unless i find a good deal on something else.

Here are my stats

This looks good
Newegg.com - Kingston HyperX T1 Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KHX8500D2T1K2/4G

Also, I would recomend to ditch xp 64bit if you can. About 1.5 years ago my company switched all of our software guys to it and it has been a PAIN IN OUR ASS!!! I hate that software and have so many problems that just seem like weird things.

If you're still sticking with XP because Vista blows whale vagina, then I suggest you give Windows 7 a try, it actually is a pretty solid OS.

not much pc2 8500 ram to choose from. my build is less than a year old. i guess i should have dished out a few more coins on the MB. Along with ram i am planning on getting a portable HD so i can backup my drive to save all my data and then install windows7

yea im debating whether i should go with 32 or 64 when i get Win7. i had a few problems with compatibility issues like with itunes, HP printer driver, and a few others. not sure how it is with Win7 because ive never play with it let alone install software. mostly likely ill be getting 4GB of ram(cause this MB blows) but i was just wondering, can you use more on the 32. i heard rumors that they patched vista so you were able to use more than 4GB.

32 bit systems don't have the capability to allocate more than 4GB of RAM. They just flat out won't recognize it. I would go x64 Win7 if I were you and enjoy the improvements.

Here's an article that better explains it:
Clearing up the 32/64-bit memory limit confusion | ZDNet

and the patch you're talking about i think is so the win7 x86 recognizes 4gigs of RAM instead of 3.

Windows 7 x64 has pretty good compatiblity with x86 (32-bit) programs. I'm not sure how it's set up technically, but Windows 7 actually has separate program folders: one for x64, and one for x86. I haven't had any compatibility issues and I've been using 7 x64 for 15 months.
