Default Dano's SS Exmani install

So I thought I’d throw up some pics of my SteenSpeed exmani install. I only have pics for what I think are the important steps so this is not an all inclusive EM install thread.

So here’s what we are installing today:

So before you can install this work of art, you need to remove the OEM POS. This required me to disconnedt the DP and TIP from the turbo so I could slide it back away from the EM studs.

Post EM install pic with DP removed from the turbo with WG at full open on my ATP 2871R.

There is really only one modification you need to make before you can bolt up the SS EM. The mani stud between runners 2 and 3 [pass to driver] needs to be removed because it will be two long. I already asked Leen about this and to keep the flow correct this can’t be helped. I simply replaced the OEM stud with a turbo to DP stud I had left over from my K04 to GT28 install. If I were smart [I wasn’t] I would have also replaced the studs that are right behind the turbo as well. I THINK this would allow you to remove the EM a second time without having to undo anything from the turbo. PLEASE DO THAT!

Ok, now wasn’t that easy! Hahah
In realtime it took be about 4 hours which included frequent breaks to enjoy some NewCastle, DosXX and other mood altering remedies. I can say I don’t actually enjoy getting under the car about 100 times so the aforementioned remedies are integral to a successful install.

Now on to some eye candy shots.
OEM turbo bracket rigged up ghetto style [soon to be modified with the BT Lenny Turbo Mount mod or BTLTM for short…yes this acronym will be on wiki by the end of the week]

Ok that's it for the install, tune in again for impressions and before and after dyno results.

Hey Dano, is there a way you can circle or highlight which studs in particular you mean?
I'm seriously considering this mani and being able to remove it without touching the turbo would be quite nice....

Well there is no way to remove the OEM mani without moving the turbo. Not that I could see as the OEM EM can't clear the space between the stud and turbo. Even IF you could get the nut off.

your problem areas are right between the compressor housing and head and again between the top oil feed line and head. Now with a K04 this might be possible as the comp housing is TINY and might not interfere with the stud.

BUT, If you were to replace those studs when you do the swap I think you wouldn't have to disconnect the turbo again. This is theory not fact at this point.

Great pics and thanks for the heads up on bolt between runners 2 and 3, that would've been frustrating once I order mines. Good luck with the tuning, can't wait to see dyno results.

according to your sig you are OEM turbo and, yes it might be possible....with a GT series turbo ...I don't see that happening.

1) you can't get a reverse torx on the stud with a GT turbo on.
2) if you can even remove the nut you stil have the stud to clear with the EM.

now mabe if you get lucky your nut sticks to the stud and it comes out ..maybe

I have to quit saying "get nut" "nut sticks" "stud" etc....

Fp will be here in morning. Ill start a new thread this weekend with all my trials, errors and successes. Ill say this. CAr is running really really good and pulling hard at 14psi I been running. 18-22psi coming soon. Im really curious to see if you pick up boost creep with the new manifold? YOu should see atleast 20whp gains across the board.
