(Thread Starter) | ![]() ![]() ![]() so the first step we had to fit my huge flipping core. this is it TR10 Intercooler- TREADSTONE PERFORMANCE so with this in mind we had to fabricate our own mounts to mount it up. I have pics somewhere of this will post em if i find them. we ended up cutting the crash bar in half to even fit the core flush to the top/bottom of the bumper.since the crash bar was cut and exposed to rust i spray painted it with an anti-rust black paint. we mounted the core upside down and ran the piping both hot and cold sides above the fog lights. we also had to cut the front bumpers crashbar cover (its that black piece on every bumper and the grill or whatever you call it. it was a personal choice to maximize airflow for the IC from there i had a box of 2-1/2 inch aluminum piping that i had to fabricate all my piping from. mostly straight pieces and i think two j bends. the more bends you have the easier the fabrication will be. so i went to home depot and bought be a miter saw with a steel cutting blade. oh and a good set of files ![]() from then we started to attack the cold pipe and we would use duct tape to tape the fabbed pieces together and put a sharpie mark on the pieces of pipe to show where they had to be lined up to be welded. i just ordered a hks flange pipe to place coming off the TB. as i was fabbing up this kit i wanted to keep the shortest most efficient route of the piping. i know CX racing takes the hot pipe and sends it down by the oil stick. i decided to send it down by the powersteering lines and passenger headlight. its a tight fit but it works ![]() From there i routed it under the windshield wiper tank with a 90* coupler. The only thing i had to relocate out of everything was the horn. sorry for the dirty engine bay. ![]() i think the second pic has a clean engine bay shot. also one shot is the hot pipe going down right behind the passenger light and over the PS lines let me know on feed back and if anyone wants to take this route i will be more then happy to send more detailed photos and give any advice. enjoy Last edited by djuosnteisn; 03-30-2011 at 10:06 AM. |

| ![]() ![]() ![]() Eric's going BT very soon, so it will hopefully be quite utilized. Plus.... low pressure drop isn't a bad thing. Hard to do over kill on intercoolers IMO. If you have the room for big... go big ![]() Some of those weld sections were pretty difficult lol. That one booger welded section will be replaced with a proper bend once we order some more pipe.

| ![]() ![]() ![]() yea....so it looks like this routing is flopped right? most of the time the hot pipe goes in on the drivers side and that means the cold side is really long...with a shorter cold pipe that means less potential for heat soak right? |

| ![]() ![]() ![]() Damn bro I like both of your guys cores. Im also a fan of the bigger cores. On the srt4s we use 24x12x3.5 cores. This looks very similar. I thought about buying one of these cores and doing it like this but ended up just doing this. Similar size just more length and less height. Looks great bro.

| ![]() ![]() ![]() Nice job guys! I wish there was someone around here that could help me get put together a fmic. $420 is a lotttttt cheaper then the $1,185 cp-e is asking for for their fmic. Even with the 20% off it's still $948... Again, nice job with the custom setup!! I hope it stays working well and there aren't an issues with it!

| ![]() ![]() ![]() Lot's of rumors about large IC's causing turbo lag and stuff... But when you calculate out the increase in volume over stock, and how many CFM the motor is flowing at various RPM's... you'll realize that it only boils down to like 100 milliseconds of difference. IMO, there really isn't any harm in going big. It's like saying something is too efficient.... which is just silly.

| ![]() ![]() ![]() that is one massive intercooler.. I'm assuming that there's no way to do it without keeping the stock grille on? Damn.. if only I had the skills to do this. Would sure save a lot rather than buying the $1.2k Cobb or cp-e one ![]() |

(Thread Starter) | ![]() ![]() ![]() you could have kept the stock grill on actually it would have just blocked some of the airflow since the IC is so big. yeah this is a good set-up i really have nothing bad to say about it. |

| ![]() ![]() ![]() did you have to relocate anything or modify many brackets etc? That's a huge intercooler, I love it haha. you guys should seriously consider doing this as an IC kit and sell it on here! |

| ![]() ![]() ![]() This is true, and considering i welded the mounting tabs directly to the oem (half) crash bar, it's not something that can be simple "bolt on".

| ![]() ![]() ![]() Nah, I just got mine mounted up... but my core is about half the size of yours. haha... so I was just wondering how your pipe routing differed because of it. Actually you should do a 'how-to', I've noticed it is a subject that is lacking on the MS6. There are a few threads showing some parts and maybe 4 completed photos. I bet a lot more members would be willing to try a FMIC if they had the confidence of a step by step.

| ![]() ![]() ![]() Actually, mine's altered customs, so it's made for the car. Just got it at a custom price. My core is cxracing, not treadstone though. ![]() The core is 20x8x3.5, overall 30 in length. I left the pipes covered so I won't scuff 'em up. I'm painting my bov flange today too but you get the idea.

| ![]() ![]() ![]() Looks great Docnox! With that bottom section cut out of the crash bar, it should all work out pretty good! You might have to get a little spirited with the dremel and the fog light housing.. but they still have the outer covers to snap in place so you can take quite a bit out of them.
