First post to the forums. Really just wanted to show my gratitude for this write up! Everything went smooth sailing thanks to everyone on here. Ended up just getting the whole plate from Amazon to save the hastle of pressing the bearings in and my speed3 shifts like new again with no puddle! Everyone on here is awesome.

Guys, for the whole kit for $83, is all you have to do is unbolt the cover and that's it?

Not quite. You'll need to remove the shaft from the old plate kit and install it in the new one.

Ok, the shaft you're referring to is not the big, long piece deep in the transmission is it? The write up has us removing a bolt and pulling something big out. Trying to avoid that.

You're not going to avoid that.
The complete kit comes with a new bearing, installed, so you don't need to remove and install a new bearing in the existing part. It also comes with a new breather that you'll need to drive in, and a new rubber bonnet. You'll still need to pull the complete assembly with shift shaft, remove the indexing bolt, drive out the pin to remove the shaft, then re-assemble with the new parts.

This job looks worse than it is. If you can work a ratchet and a hammer, you're golden. Got it done in under 2 hours with a tea break.

@dynobunny, thank you so much for such a detailed post. I owe you a beer for sure.

I’m not certain this was how this was supposed to go. I tried to unstick the gasket on the plate with a chisel, but just managed to bend the chisel pretty good. Do I need a better one, or have I misinterpreted the directions?

Thanks!

Try getting a rubber mallet and whack the side of the plate. That worked for me.

I did this repair along time ago but I sure dont remember needing to use any force to remove anything. Be careful.

the metal of that chisel is too soft.

im going to leave the rest of the comments to myself.

a screwdriver or the punch you are going to use later on would be a much better choice to insert in to get the pivot shaft assembly out.

I saw this thread and made a video of the process start to finish.

Like others have said here, the job is about two hours. The video shows every painful detail and is just over an hour long.
