Default Setting The Pressure Threshold on your TPMS

Since MSF blew up I will post this info again. Enjoy!

I have had issues with my TPMS going off for no reason especially when it first gets cold. My TPMS goes off sometimes when all of my tire pressures are perfectly fine. When these issues happen it is because the threshold on one or more of the sensors needs to be adjusted. Here is how to adjust it.

1. Before you start your car, make sure your tires are at your cold pressure setting then start her up and take her out for a drive.

2. After the drive (must be at least a mile), park your car and make sure to leave it running for this entire process.

3. Deflate each tire by 10 psi within 30 seconds to start the training sequence.

4. Fill each tire back up to the operating pressure and have all four done within 2 minutes.
Note: The TPMS light will come on when your pressure drops 25% below the pressure you set.

5. Take the car out for a spin and enjoy your new thresholds.

Note: Before you perform these steps make sure that your TPMS is linked up with your ECU. To do this, follow the steps in your users manual that talk about installing a new TPMS sensor.

Um when it gets cold the pressure drops so there was a reason yours was it was probably semi-low so when it got cold it would set it off.
Either way if this works then good job. I'm getting new tires soon so ill try this.

Nope, not true. I checked all of my tires and they were at 33psi. Now the light comes on at 27psi like it is supposed to.

If you find that one or more tires are low and at a pressure you want the sensor to notify you, then you should be good to go. Can't hurt to go through the process though to make sure it is all set up correctly. Good luck.

Goes off on the down side.

I made updates to this procedure. I found out about a key step to start the training process for each sensor. Steps 3 and 4 have changed. I also added step 5. Enjoy!

Your telling me. You pretty much need a compressor to do this.

When I say compressor, I mean like a 10 gallon one to speed up the process.

Don't knock the bike pump. I used one for a while when my cheap portable inflator broke. Worked like a charm too, plus it was a great workout.

Resurrecting an old thread because my TPMS light came on and all the tires have the right pressure in them.
Could it possibly be this? I'd try it, but if I understand the instructions, you have to let the air out of four tires within 30 seconds?!?! Huh?
I hope he meant to say 30 seconds per tire.
Has anyone done this?

You only need to let at least 10psi out of each tire within 30 seconds. Once all four have been deflated, you have 2 minutes to inflate all four back to the PSI you desire.

If you have been running fine for a while and you all of a sudden get the light with no PSI issues, you either need to re-sync your sensors or one or more of them have gone bad.

This how-to is for those of us that get warnings when the tire pressure drops to 30psi and we want the warning psi to be lowered to a setting that makes sense...
