Default Catted DP interfering with lower firewall.

Hello.
Ordered a catted DP 5:th of june through Edge.
Received it a good month later after inquiries both to Edge and directly to CP-e.
Since then it has been in my garage since i haven't had the time to install it due to both travels and work.

Anyways, got it on today an thought the clearance at the lower firewall was a bit poor but couldn't fell any "direct contact" so i proceed to test drive.

And what do you know, car sounds like a diesel truck/fishing boat or something like that.
Engine vibration makes it hit the firewall and creates the phenomenon described.
It's pretty clear when you inspect it close up

Anyone else had this problem?
What are my options now @www.cp-e.com ?

@Grumpyjap...

I can't speak for CP-E OP, but they are making a conscious effort to provide better customer service.

Looking forward to seeing you get sorted.

Are you sure its an MS6 DP and not for an MS3? This same thing happened a few months ago where an MS3 DP was installed on a 6.

Yeah, it's really sad...
If this was an 120$ eBay-piece it would be one thing but it....is not.

It seems to be an MS6 as far as i can work out, at least from the product pictures on their site it looks right.
Quite a difference between the two in those pictures.
It also lines up to the catback correctly.

Give this a try, loosen the bolts on the bell mouth while it's still connected to the cat back. it should right itself and give you the right clearance you need between the dp and firewall. If that doesn't work then also completely disconnect it from the cat-back and try to reseat it to give you the clearance you need. One of these should work. We've had people call us about this numerous times, if the dp isn;t seated correctly and you tighten the bell mount into place this is usually the outcome. Keep us posted.

Well...
Back from an evening spent at the garage again.

To get my DP properly seated by just adjusting the bell mouth bolts wasn't even close to working.
I don't really see how it would make a huge difference either, since 2 of the holes are the exact same size as the bolts.
My DP was to much off to the passenger side anyways.

Thankfully a friend of mine is a kick ass welder and metal worker,
so here is what we had to do to your 702$ DP to get it to fit:

1. Cut it completely by the upper cat weld and twist the bell mouth ~5mm to the left.
This fixed the pipe coming down from the engine to clear the firewall by good margin.
But of course also threw the lower pipe and connection to the cat back off center.

2. Cut it completely by the lower cat weld as well, and then twist the lower end of the cat ~5mm to the RIGHT.
This centered the pipe coming back to the exhaust again.

So where does this leave me?
I bought this DP instead of an eBay one because of fear of fitment issues and no cat option. But as much work as i have putted in the eBay option + weld in an cat would have been a lot wiser and above all, cheaper.
In fact, i'm confident that we could have made an just as good DP from scratch ourselves.
Well, maybe apart from the turbo flange.

Looking forward to your comments.

Glad to see you got it fixed, i wish you would have contacted us directly first and wish we could have gotten a solution without you doing what you did. We haven't had a fitment issue that I know of.

Cant really see what that solution would have been?

The dp was too much over to the passenger side fore any small fix to work

Returning it from finland not really an option.
So what you are saying is you don't really care and feel no need to compensate me or at least appologize for inconvenience?

That is not at all true we were talking it over, I was gonna request you email us directly so we can chat about it. Most know i don't really reply to the forums. For the record we care but I let the our cp-e™ reps answer the forums. I do not do this on my personal account.

You should NEVER modify a product you're having issues with until everything is resolved by the vendor/manufacturer or you get a green light from them for modification.

I believe every manufacturer should stand behind their products and fix issues like these, but 1) you have to work with them and 2) Being in another country doesn't help.

It's not CP-e's fault that you live in Finland nor that you were super eager to install the DP.

Next time when you have a problem like this, make sure you work out the solution FIRST before you begin hacking shit up...

Well, they could have offered to pay to ship it back. I think they did that recently for someone with tmic prob.

The criticism is that you didn't wait to find out.

Also, they could want to see it for themselves. Not to prove you wrong, but to see what went wrong so they cold prevent it from happening again.

Next time when you have a problem like this, make sure you work out the solution FIRST before you begin hacking shit up...
Point taken, i'm just used to "take charge" myself to fix these kind of issues i guess.

As for being eager i don't really know if letting it sit in my garage for a month before installing it is really that eager
Once you DO install it you don't JUST put the old DP in again since it's quite a hassle.
This is my DD so i really can't have it down for too long.

We're sorry you ran into this issue and we were trying to work with you. Being in Europe definitely makes it difficult. Like Chunie said we had wished you would have continued to work with us before you took action. We are happy it all worked out though. If you have any further problems please contact Chunie.

Yeah, i know i can't really demand anything from you at this stage.

It just really sucks to pay good money for a product that you still need to modify to make it fit.

This is the first issue we've had with the Speed6 DP. Again we're very sorry that this happened.
