It would have to be pressure tested hot. That way you can account for the change in material due to the heat under the hood. Then pressure test it frozen. I don't see any reason though why it couldn't hang with the best of them, it may need some RTV on the panel for some people.

Hahahahah!!! This thing is made from cast stainless, with no welds. There is no worries about how much pressure this will hold. Right now the plate on the front is sealed with RTV, but I believe the production units will have an O ring.

How did you manage to stick your fingers into the design of both manifolds?

Who said I had anything to do with the design of the cp-e manifold? I was at Maryland raceway during imports v domestics and they had their R and D car there fitted with their manifold. I also saw it at their shop before it was installed on the car as well.

No worries man!!

I can vouch for it being an exteemy nice piece, and can understand why it has taken as long as it has to bring to market.

Seems like the throttle body relocation is going to be a problem for 6's. Guess I'll have to see what it takes to get air to that spot when it used to be a nice straight shot from drivers fender to the throttle body with most FMIC kits.

I was thinking the same thing but their EM is already cast stainless so they might get a batch price or they may be using left over material for the testing stages. Either way stainless will weigh in at quite a bit more than the stock manifold. I'm hoping the final version will be aluminum.

Well, I picked it up and it sure felt like the weight if stainless. I could be wrong though, if it was aluminum, it is a very thick cast aluminum. At any rate, the way this is made there is no need to worry how much pressure this will hold.

Magnus Motorsports produces a cast intake manifold for the DSM/EVO platform.

They run that exact manifold on Brent Rau’s Eclipse drag car who has the record for having the fastest 4 cylinder drag motor in the world.

They run 96 PSI of boost.

A cast design has an excellent advantage as it is weldless however I don't think anyone will be able to damage the JM-Fabrications unit, either.

I am more interested in the flow characteristics than anything.

I like the design and am always down for more parts.

Can't wait for future results.

LOL @ Magnus

That shop is literally down the street from my house. They make good stuff but Marco has always turned his back on his me when I asked for parts to get made. I offered to pay up front for him to design an intake manifold for our motor. He told me he would need the car for 8-12 weeks it would be $5000 and he would not guarantee fitment. Then you guys complain about CP-E, after getting around this industry they aren't the best but they by far aren't the worst. Marco bascially told me sell the Speed get an Evo and come back.

Why would they point the throttle body down? Are they making this for the regular Mazda 3?

The Mazda 3 Duratec head has a completely different port design so that is unlikely.

I understand, but we have a completely different throttle body position. I'm just wondering what their reasoning behind such a drastic reposition was.

Looking at post #262 , with the photo, it appears they have repositioned to increase flow. The stock manifold has a few more turns in the airflow in comparison.

If I had to guess I would say it makes the FMIC plumbing easier by reducing a bend so there my some flow increase. I have 5 - 90* bends on my hotside and added up of 3 90* bends on the cold side. It also frees up some more room under the hood.

I would just hope that they tested this with some of the more common short shift plates on the transmission to see if there are any interference with the new pipe routing. Who knows maybe there is more clearance now.

I have to say though if you modding this far to need this manifold and you can't have a new section of cold side piping made, maybe you shouldn't be buying this manifold. I for one an looking forward to it, since I will run 3" from the cold side right to the TB to replace the 2.5" I have now.

What sucks is CP-e is doing all this work and research and you can expect 6 months after release a cheap Chinese knock off of this exact manifold.

Considering their history of testing for fitment with products other than their own, such as the horrible placement of the ewg piping on their ex manifold, I wouldn't bet on it.

I have to say though if you modding this far to need this manifold and you can't have a new section of cold side piping made, maybe you shouldn't be buying this manifold. I for one an looking forward to it, since I will run 3" from the cold side right to the TB to replace the 2.5" I have now.
As of right now I have full 3" piping out of the drivers fender directly inline with the larger throttle body I'm running. This design will add an unwanted bend into the piping, but I'm thinking it might possibly be beneficial since it won't make that sharp 90 in the manifold itself like the stock and JMF do. What I do worry about is where this opening ends up at because if it causes much of a dip in the current path, I will be in the way of the shifter. Without seeing it mounted, there is the possiblility that the design of this thing even with the TB change ends up where a simple 45 coupler on the TB meets right up to where the piping typically runs on a 6. I'm still hoping to see some results soon, because I can't afford to lose gobs of torque on the 6 since it still gets driven regularly, but I think there is definitely some improvement to be had with an IM.

thanks for clarifying that it's aluminum, Rich. I was thinking, a cast stainless IM is going to be both heavy and lead to high retained BAT's.

If you guys gather a list of specific questions I can call Ben@CP-E and get some answers. I believe the reason this manifold has taken so long is because of employee turn over and not enough staff. Ben has been with CP-e for about 1 year now and has taken on numerous half finished projects.

1. Will flow data for the manifold be published compared to the stock manifold?
2. Will the manifold be bundled with a port injection kit?
3. What is the opening size of the TB mounting flange (is it compatible with 3" TB's)?
4. Has the manifold been pressure tested? If so to what?
5. What's the weight of this manifold compared to stock?
6. Why was the throttle position changed?
7. Will this manifold bring me the women?
8. How do the runner lengths compare to the stock ones?
9. What is the plenum volume of the manifold compared to stock?
10. Will the manifold come with new intercooler piping or is that up to the buyer?
11. Is this manifold TMIC compatible?

I think that's about everything people want to know.

I can already say plenum volume is at least double stock. Maybe more. I would like to see if the runners are split in there or note.

Well I've been waiting for a long time for the CPE Intake mani since I have the CPE turbo mani already, but it isn't coming fast enough so I went ahead and just bought the JMF V2 w PI and the Port Injection Fuel Kit just now! Did I fuck up? Or should I be golden?

-Ready to rumble by end of the year!

That and the first version was tested and had a problem related to the metal used.

Good to see that they are patient as to release and making sure this thing is 100% ready to go before any of us install it.
