CPE catted DP question

I have a CPE catted DP on my MS6. I have a couple of simple questions, hope someone can answer.

First, my installer claims the "cat" is a dummy, it isn't actually a cat. I'm pretty sure he's wrong on this. But, I thought I'd bring it up. He says he dropped a socket in one end of the DP by accident, and, it just fell out the other end. That tells him it is just a straight pipe and the hump that is supposed to be the cat is a dummy. I never had any CEL with it, so, I'm sure he's wrong. But, I thought I'd ask for comments.

Second question, I got the ProSport widband A/F gauge. The instructions say that if you have a turbo or high EGTs, then you should mount the sensor 36" from the engine exhaust. On the other hand, it also says it should be mounted before your cat. Well, the cat isn't 36" away. My shop, since they concluded the cat was a dummy, welded the bung at the end of the DP, past the flex section. So, I'm wondering about that as well.

The CP-E DP does have a real cat in it.

The wideband O2 should have been mounted right before the cat in the DP, if it overheats you'll need to make or buy a heatshield/spacer for it..(Innovate Motor Sports On-Line Store)

Your wideband will read leaner than the actual AFR because it is now mounted behind the cat...

I have heard a few things you've said that your shop has "said". You sure you trust them man? It doesnt sound like they have the most performance oriented education or skills.

I was pretty sure of that. But, at least regular cats you can't usually drop a bolt through them. Obviously I know that performance cats are designed for less backpressure, but, I didn't think it would be so open to let a bolt fall through.

Well, they were right about the hole sizes in the spacer. They haven't been right about everything, but, overall, I've been happy with their work. Though, the shop went out of business. The landowner wanted to sell the land it was on. The main people of the shop are thinking about opening their own new shop. The shop manager and lead tech are both RX-7 fans and both have modded RX-7's.

the cp-e downpipe is definately not straight through at the cat...when i got mine you can somewhat look through the mouth of the downpipe and tell that it isn't straight thru so i think your shop is blowing smoke up your ass, especially with some of the other stuff you had posted they said.

I got it from SU. It came with all the CPE papers and logo on the pipe. So, I'm pretty sure it is legit. So, I guess I must conclude that my shop gave me bad info on this. Thanks for the responses.

i have a cp-e catted for my ms3

i am sure my cat is legit....i can small my exhaust and it does NOT smell like a catless setup

Maybe it is catless with just the flexpipe. A bolt could fall straight through the catless set-up.
Can you verify from the outside it has both the flex joint and a small hf cat?

My pipe has both the flex and a CAT. I am not pretty certain that my installer was mistaken or whatever. I don't know. But, I now feel confident I have a CAT. Thanks for responding everybody.
