I had never owned a CPE product till I bought the towplate. When I read the instructions, I was very surprised at how DETAILED they were. It was awesome! It really showed me how much dedication and thought they put into their product. I must say that CPE is a great company for this.

i have no experience with power steering fluid. my hands had been dirty. and no one except kevin was talking shit until we all realized that this was a pain in the ass. (go figure )

well, i was 100% unbiased until i started disconnecting hoses. i understood that shit would run down and get me wet. that was not my problem, it's just too much for me. i'm not going to turn this thread into anything regarding cpe and cobb and i hope it stays that way. i don't give two shits about that. all i know is that i need help.

i need help with t3h power steering. please help me. i have no power steering right now. this might be as simple as adding more fluid, but i want to make sure i do it correctly.
the two lines coming off of the power steering cooler...does it matter which hose goes to which line?
i took the top one from the oem power steering thing and made that the top one on the cpe thing. then i did that on the bottom.
soooooo...when we tried filling the power steering fluid reservoir, the pump made horrible sounds...is that just air?
i tried turning it back and forth and back and forth to get rid of the air, but it seems like it was all for nought.
when i was turning the wheels (mind you, the car was still jacked), it felt really loose, leading me to believe power steering wasn't in fact hooked up correctly. should i switch the lines?
OR should i just try to fill the power steering reservoir and turn the wheels back and forth?

please please please help
You might want to try adding the fluid with the car off the jack stands. It might be putting some part of the system higher than the fluid reservoir and pump not allowing the fluid to be pumped through the system correctly, I'm not positive but it's worth a shot.

I know on my old VW vanagon, you had to raise the whole front of the car like a foot to bleed the coolant lines, crazy coolant system those had.

I'll be installing my CPE FMIC in a week or so and will give my install impressions after. I'll be doing it alone so will have to fight any problems by myself.

Good luck with your PS.....

This was such a case and it happened to be witnessed by at least 8 other ms3-ms6 owners. World is full of dissapointments...sad to say.
newsflash....

these intercoolers have been out for over 6 months with hundreds of installs and user impressions. you guys just had the worst one ive read and you posted it in my section....wtf?!?!? and lenny...you specifically have an axe to grind so you need to personally man up.

as for me...of course im a fanboi for defending it. and i think you need to all take kevins dick with the cobb tattoo out of your mouth, in order to have an objective opinion. philly brought the truth out when he said that kevin "was the first to bring it up"... yeah surprise there. kevin bitching about cpes design = real shocker.

Their design is stupid and ive made no secret about it from day one, geee... surprise..

Everyone makes good and bad parts, who gives a fuck? He got it cheap and he wanted a FMIC. I was just surprised at all the shit he had to relocate, just to off center the damn thing to save 2, worthless, plastic tabs.

can we make one thing clear. i have NO dick in my mouth. and if i did, it sure as hell wouldn't say cobb.
i'm not 100% loyal to a manufacturer. and like i said, i was, as were most people, really really impressed with the downpipe. that's a quality fucking piece.
i also stated that i remained unbiased even though others were not.

well come in here and grind your axe big boy... ive got one in both hands myself.

its just perspective kevin... ive installed 4 of them and when im doing it.... the customers are usually tickled with the extra higher quality heat exchangers, easy and near perfect fitment, incredibly detailed instructions, upgraded ps lines, and beauty of the kit in general. and installed like i said... in a busy 2 hours.

search all three forums and link a thread where a customer posted negative impression AFTER they purchased the kit.

if you hadnt been so busy bitching about it, you might have been able to lead your little army there to get the job done in less than all day affair.

Please demonstrate to me, how a Cpe FMIC is higher quality, than that of a Cobb? I really have to hear this one.

Kevin was sober so he notices things. As for I , specifically told everyone no dropping fluids in my driveway..... had I known the cp-e fmic required not one..but TWO fluids to be drained the install wouldn't have happened. Thats my ignorance for assuming the only element involved in an FMIC change would be AIR. And I'm sure putting some fins on a shorter tube that carries powersteering fluid really drops the temps on that pump!?!? I'm just surprised they dont claim the rubber they use for the radiator hose has magic rubber that has additional cooling properties. All is well....the downpipe looked ok at least...compared to exhaust depot's.

im not the one saying one is better than the other.

Im the one in my own cpe section, defending an intercooler i use and sell, thats had marvelous customer reviews from top to bottom....from being mocked and trashed by the lapdogs of the forum owner who is a known cobb fanboy.

are we clear here?
And i dont mind defending it either... it allows me to highlight all the upgrades the thing has over the competition.

geez louise...

your a hypocrite considering how badly you attack laloosh al the time for addressing real isues with your manufacturer of choice. Quit comparing issues like loss of power, broken components, plastic tinker quality, springs that drop the car up, out of stocks like crazy..... to cpe. Your fear of a little fluid on your driveway compared to all that is a fucking joke.

This thread i believe was about phillyb's experience with his cpe installs...since the shit was at my house and I have enough experience working on plenty of hot rods that I have built myself from the ground up using only community college as my "driveway" (yeah, including buillding and machining my own motors.0 I believe I am certified enough to judge how lame a "bolt on " part is. all right. thats enough. youve made youre point and people are gonna judge your comments based on probably what seems obvious about all this or what they already believe. but your posts are going to hell. so thats enough. ok?

?????? dude chill out. theres more to the kit. some would say thats a good thing... some would say its overengineered. no question there is more published r/d on the cpe core. cobb hardly released anything.

i dont want to argue this. cobbs kit is a nice one too it seems. this really just isnt the big deal you guys are trying to make out.

wow the minute cp-e or cobb is mentioned a pissing match ensues. Philly just wanted to comment of what he thought of the install, and to ask a few questions about fixing his power steering issue. it's nice to know that the install was more complex than other kits, some may like the ps cooler, others may not. Some people looking for a faster install and removal time may decide to look somewhere else. I do like the fact that cp-e did add these additions to the kit it makes it look like they actually did some r&d and thought that there is an added benefit. Maybe a basic kit sans ps cooler would be a nice option for those looking for a quicker install time.
philly unless i'm mistaken it shouldn't matter which \ hose goes into an out of the cooler, unless there some crazy 1 way baffle system in it. Just add more fluid and keep turning the wheel, while on the ground.

all the more questionable that you had such a big issue when a rookie like me, knocked it out in 2 hours the second time i saw the damn thing.

Between 2-3 hours.... me and semperboost pulled his turboxs ic OFF, put the cpe ic on, pulled his fujita intake off and fitted a cpe cai to the atp inlet and gt3071 which was the bulk of the pia in the install. we didnt have the correct length coupler and had to run around the shop for the last 1/2 hour tracking some stuff down.

he showed up at 9 and was gone by noon.

How in the hell 12 guys with all your experience bungled this job can probably be summed up in just a few words.....

10 cobb fanboys
beer
carne asada
a driveway that better not get dirty....and
class clown philly bought a used cpe ic

hahah for sure philly...
and ya.. i have a few cpe parts with my FMIC and CAI from them getting here sometime this week (right randy?)
i am by no means a car expert, and wont claim to be... but yesterday there were plenty of people that knew there shit.
we did everything from front mounts, sways, downpipes, ect. and had a great time talkin shit and talkin cars
i helped philly out a little bit (not much) with his FMIC and i agree the things required for install seemed a little extensive, and i just hope its not that involved for when mine gets here and i eagerly throw it on.
Kevin- i have alot of respect for you, but i dont think the Cpe FMIC is horrible. (la-douche where the fuck did you tap for meth?)
not saying its any better/worse than the cobb.
randy- thanks for all the constant price checks and helping me ordering and such..
but dont take this the wrong way, alot of people dont like the way you argue/present yourself on the boards.. and representing a company, i think you should take a more technical approach to arguing.. when you avoid answering questions it leads me to believe you dont have a good answer.
please try to understand...
not hating.. im just a reader in these things most of the time..

i was just offended that you thought all the people at the bbq were incompetent installers.
im not ASE certified or anything, but some people there were quite knowledgeable so please show some respect in that regard.

dane..
first and foremost... i represent myself. i hardly believe that my opinions hurt cpe sales. thats a joke. and i'll let my sales figures dictate, and my sponsors decide... if i need to tone it down. i hardly think i do. give me an example of where ive angered anybody but all the cobb guys running around with their tinker toy tuning devices concerned more about ltfts, and KR... than actual power. When Kevin gets done with 8 months of revisions for MSF version 1.03.45fsr and actually posts a goddam dyno... than i might take the whole thing seriously.

and as far as knocking all the car experts there. i am. point blank. if this fucking intercooler pissed them all off than i wouldnt trust them to install a bag of groceries in my trunk. its just not that hard. my neighbor, derek and i installed it the first time in my driveway in about 4 hours interupted by a rainstorm where we had to pack up everything and move itside.... there was no complaints by any of us. hell the damn undertray...is and remains the worst part of the job.

the second time i did one we knocked it out in a couple of hours... the 3rd and 4th time i could have done it in my sleep. there were never any complaints from the others invovled.

this was a cobb sausage fest gone bad. a bunch of guys got buzzed, started making fun of philly with his used cpe shit and when the thing didnt snap together like the glovebox...all hell broke loose. i can imagine EXACTLY what went on there, and if guys are gonna talk shit about how "tough" it was... or how"overengineered" it all is... then im gonna call them out for being biased.... either that, or they have no business lifting wrench. There simply just isnt much to this install.

and the fact that you guys are making such a goddam big deal about it has already affected perception... i gaurantee it. the one guy above concluded that it might take a little too much time, or be a little over his head. thats fucking bullshit and im gonna say so. its a great kit and ive never heard more bitterness about the thing than in this one thread.

100's of satisfied customers > a bunch of bitter buzzed cobb fanboys at a socal barbecue

as i said before... if i was doing the install this thread never would have gone this way. its that simple. and im not exactly an experienced grease monkey either...lol

Pissing match? lol.. if you were there, you couldn't be more wrong. I just think its fuckin stupid to relocate all of that shit, just to have an off centered core, where as a person could cut 2 simple plastic tabs off if need be and be done with the damn thing, centered.
