(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score 3rd gear pull 2nd gear pull 1st gear pull To give a little more detail about the CX7, the vehicle was bone stock save for the PnP Standback. We decided to attach the Standback not for boost control or higher numbers, we simply wanted to datalog the runs so that we could compare data from one run to another in an attempt to understand exactly where the extra opwer is coming from exactly. So the Standback was set to 15psi, but all of the timing and fueling tables were zereod out. The vehicle also had no intake or exhaust modifications, so this is pretty much a stock CX7 with the flash. I'm going to go over the datalogs over the next few days, and if you guys have anything in particular that you'd like to see please let me know and I'll do my best to post the data up here. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Hey now... i thought that was kinda funny. Those numbers are incredible. Now what is the difference between the ko3 on the cx7 and the ko3 on my gti? Are they the same? my gti is running 19-21 psi in 4th on up. With the standback changing boost and the throttle control, you could make a cx7 rollout, huh? very nice Jordan... im sure you all feel very vindicated. It is interesting the different perspectives were seeing on this ecu. Bottom line is, I'll take the results every time. |

![]() Actually I think the turbo on the CX7 is in fact a Hitachi-Warner K04, but the difference between this one and the one on the MS3/6 is the cold side. So I *think* the CX7 turbo is closer to the MS3/6 than the gti. And I doubt the CX7 will tolerate 19psi, unfortunately. We targeted 15psi with the Standback and it barely make that! I'll post up the logs once I get a spare moment, but they're interesting as compared to the MS3/6. And thanks for the kudos Randy. I can't tell you how nice it is to be pleasantly surprised every once in a while

| Not Ranked : 0 score Nice numbers but it would be more convincing if the standback was left out of the picture altogether. Your reasoning for hooking it up is sound, but it really doesn't make the vehicle stock anymore, zeroed or not.

| Not Ranked : 0 score No offense dude but your gripe is BS. The breathing mods accentuate the throttle problem/benefit from keeping it open. THe SB, in this case, is just a boost controller. No, it's not stock but it's the closest to stock that anyone reading this will ever care about. It seems like you're trying to pick a fight or something. |

There's really nothing more for me to add. If they're gonna claim a stock car made X amount of power with their flash, well..... let's leave the 'boost controller' out of it. That's all I'm saying. Someone with a bone stock CX-7 might see these numbers and expect the exact results when in reality, they could be lower. Not everyone is willing to pay for a standback or mess around with a boost controller.

Now we got arguing over an suv....lol Great results. the standback is irrelevent btw. If anything its interesting that a standback was used on the vehicle to begin with. Are standbacks compatible with this car yet? Im unaware. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score From having had a CX-7 for a breif time I can see there being some gains from this. Just driving it you could tell there was some sort of ECU trickery that wouldn't let it get out of its own way from a stop. Just wondering if the flash helped the beast get off the line better or is the lag still there. Also curious again why the dyno pulls are never at a consistant RPM? I can also see what betelgeuse is saying as it is NOT stock with the standback doing a better job at holding boost. Good gains though. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I agree that using the standback as a boost controller is kinda cheating. The whole reason I'm even interested in getting this flash is so that I can maintain stock boost at higher RPM's without a boost controller. Good results none the less, but would I see the same results without a standback controlling boost? |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Unless I'm missing something, I don't see what the big fuss is that the StandBack was involved. I guess ideally there could have been a 3rd run made with a completely stock vehicle, but this still seems like an apples-to-apples comparison to me. Congrats to CP-E for the accomplishment. I can't see how this is anything but more good news for our community. Since the dynos were datalogged, any chance we can see plots of some of the parameters during those runs? Boost/AFR/Timing/Temps/Knock/ect.

| Not Ranked : 0 score if the standback was used both pre/post flash then i dont see the problem. If the car was dynoed stock then the standback was used along with the flash, then the results should be taken with a grain of salt. When my car was stock 15 psi was a dream, it maybe spiked 15 and held 12-13 in the upper gears |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I agree with laloosh as long as it was on their for the pre and post flash runs the results are valid. I didn't realize the ms3 barely holds 15 without a boost controller. I never had anything to monitor before I got the AP. The cx-7 must be even worse. Why can't mazda make an auto tranny that can handle some power.

The standback is proven to give performance already. Why not show the power of the "FLASH" ON ITS OWN with the rest of the tune being stock difficult boost and all....... The standback may not be in one's budget!

CPE States: "So the Standback was set to 15psi, but all of the timing and fueling tables were zereod out. The vehicle also had no intake or exhaust modifications, so this is pretty much a stock CX7 with the flash." So, the CX7 is locked in at 15 psi with the SB? We all know one of the best datalogging software availabe is by AutoEnginuity, so if you want to datalog it, there you go. Its a cheap, good solution for shops. I think the question being raised is, removing the SB altogether to make a valid "control" to the numbers that show an increase.

The argument about the SB is kind of pointless though when you think about the effects of the TP. The TP closing is a big restriction of flow. The valid comments about a stock car were based around cars with breathing mods that will accentuate the TP effects. This car had no such breathing mods to accentuate anything. In this case the only restriction that was eliminated was the TP. The cx-7 likely made more power/torque with the SB but the gains are all due to the flash and they would be there SB or not.

Are you telling me a SB can log every single PID like the AE? Im doubting this.

| Not Ranked : 0 score It's not an argument btw the SB and the AE. The issue is that cp-e doesn't have an AE. As for the holding boost, you're right about the ultimate power number but the gains realized from the flash will be translatable w/ or w/o the SB present because the hardware (DP, exhaust, IC, intake) is the same and all stock. |
