Default Problems with gen2 PNP/SB

I've had the SB/PNP connected since Saturday without any issue, running a stock map until I tune. Tonight I threw a CEL, the traction control light came on, and the car started to run rough and lost power.

I reset the ECU and the lights turned off for a minute and came right back on with the same symptoms. I decided to unplug the SB and use the bypass plug with the - battery connector disconnected. Plugged everything back up and drove about 5mi until the CEL came back on (no traction control light though). Car doesn't feel right still and I'd have the code read but it's after midnight and I have no means to read it.

Pharoh mentioning having similar issues but it was the SB getting interference. Right now I'm on the PNP only and still having issues. I was going to disconnect the PNP but it's too dark for me to get to those hard to reach/delicate connectors.

Going to drive it to work tomorrow, pull the codes, and remove the PNP.

Any idea what this might be? We were uber-careful installing the PNP and have had no problems for about 200mi until this evening. No changes have been made to the tune nor has the car been modified.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm freaking out a bit here.

Update:

I hooked up a scanner to pull/clear the code it was throwing. This is the code I'm getting:

P0097 Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 Circuit Low

I'm going to pull the PNP today and reconnect the ECU as stock and see what happens. Any idea what this code will do as far as affecting the operation of the car?

The SB does not intercept that sensor, you could possibly have a loose/bad PNP, but It's very unlikely that the SB itself is the cause of that MIL..

You get it with the bypass plug.. maybe your connections came loose on the harness?

Next move put it to stock and see if it goes away, also check the connections closely.

Thanks, I'm going to pull the PNP and see how it drives and then reinstall. From what I can see it's pretty tight and all connectors are clamped down properly. With that code what sort of "issues" should I see with the engine as a whole? I read somewhere that the IAT sensor wires are pretty snug and sometimes ground out or get knicks in them. I'm grasping for straws here, but I'm trying to figure this out.

All I know is once I pulled the SB the traction control/stutter went away. Could be a combination of issues?

Will do, Joe. I'll try that and report accordingly. Btw we need to get together offline and work on this thing.

also look for bent pins on the ecu from when you installed the PNP.

Will do. In the event one is bent what options do I have? We were uber-careful during installation of the harness so I'm not certain that it's a bent pin but I'll check nonetheless.

Yeah, its worth checking. If one is actually bent, then you can just straighten it out with tweezers or thing needle nose.

Thanks diddiyo! I'll pull the PNP off this afternoon and test functionality. If I still get the IAT code then it could be the IAT wires stressed. This is a dumb question, but I don't have the schematic in front of me, where is the IAT located on the MS3? I see the MAF but I'm still a bit new to the platform.

Update:

I spoke with Josh @ CP-e who said I need to clear the codes, reset the ECU, and drive with the harness/bypass on.

So I took it to lunch 4mi down the road and in 4th under boost hit fuel cut and was slammed pretty hard. I've NEVER hit fuel cut with my current mods even in scorching heat/cold weather. I pulled the car into the parking lot and ate, when we left the traction control light came back on intermittently as well as the CEL. I'm going to pull the codes as soon as our mechanic gets back in to let me use the scanner. I'll post up the codes for all to see, but it definitely looks like a harness/bypass issue.

I'm going to pull it off in a few hours, reset the ecu, and test it. What's the best method to pull the PNP off without breaking/bending anything. I'm having a tough time with the clips and don't want to mess anything up.

Read above. Yes, I've been running bypass since last night. Bypass gives me a CEL (IAT sensor) light and just now turned on the traction control light. The harness is coming off asap so I can test stock.

Update:

Took the PNP off (it was easy with a small screwdriver to press the tabs) and reset the ECU.

Plugged everything back-up, checked codes (nothing). Drove home and for a short drive (34mi total) and so far no CEL, no Traction Control light, no weird cut issues. I womped on it a few times on the way home in 3rd and 4th and it pulled hard without any issue.

I'm going to have to say that it's the PNP and/or SB. I need to talk to Jake/Josh about getting this thing replaced. I seriously hope they replace it quickly, I'm pushing back my tuning session and other installs for this.

I'll drive it some more tonight/tomorrow and update.

The failure rate on the SB/PNP are pretty high. Sucks for being such a high-end item.

It's starting to seem that way. Maybe it's a bad batch of harnesses recently (shrug). I think there's quite a few people running PNP/SB without problems but some of them may have had harness issues. I really hope CP-e will address the issues at hand so I can move forward.

Update: 100+mi clocked on the car and no issues with performance or codes. This is without the PNP and SB. The PNP is being sent back to CP-e for repair/replacement. While I'm sure this is a minor issue it's really making me rethink any further modifications.

nynhex, any news from your side? i just got off the phone with cp-e, they weren't able to find out what's wrong with my harness or if there is anything wrong with it at all, the tests apparently came out ok. however they're sending me a new one, so we'll see how it goes from there. i'll keep you posted.

My package was delayed in shipment so I'll find out something soon, I suppose.
