Default Standback & its future

So, let me start by saying that I am a huge supporter of CPE. Any part that I could get through you guys, I did since you prove out, research, and super-engineer everything that you sell. I own all of your MS3-specific parts...literally. I'm a big fan.

With that said, those of us who have invested in the Standback, and all of the supporting flashes, are seeing the Accessport dominate the Standback in terms of features/capability and cost. Is there any future for the Standback? I'm not trying to knock the product, but instead I want to understand where it fits now.

The only real advantage I see with the SB is the precision meth delivery I get with the Profuel controller.

Can you comment/school me on some things I may be overlooking?

Unfortunately for CPE, their piggyback/proprietary-flash-combo approach to DISI ECU tuning had a very short reign and has been soundly trounced by other pure (re)flash hardware/software capability and highly motivate individuals in the "field".

I don't see how CPE can come up with anything that is actually "better" using their historical close-hold/proprietary-type marketing approach. We have this same issue in military aerospace product development and sustainment. The developers with "open" architecture products are ALWAYS the better purchase deal even if the initial capability may be somewhat less.

I say good luck to CPE as I personally respect the people and their overall capability. Hopefully they will see the light and progress rapidly.

Mazdaedit never got around the load cap with this car - I'd stay away from anything that hasn't....

Eh, I dunno. Don't get me wrong -- I love it, it's my baby, & I'm proud to own it, but as far as performance cars go, I see it as the economical choice. As far as straight grocery getters go, I agree.

I don't have the flashes (another reason for switching) but yes you need to send your ECU to cpe. They save a ROM of everyone's ECU if they ever need to flash it back to stock. I've heard they do it free but not totally sure.

In Australia we have no choice as far as SB vs AP because Cobb won't support cars outside of NA.

A few Tune houses use EcuTek and some are even using the MazdaEdit software. MazdaEdit seems to be working for those with a tune but I'm still not sure of it.

I have a SB now but now flashes... it is cheaper for me to just go get a MazdaEdit flash tune then it is to get the CPE flashes.

versatune has not disappeared and has launched the software, however the tuner editor portion is not finished yet. working on ms6 and euro spec versions.

At the risk of going off topic... I've never really under stood what the load cap was and how it effects the standback and flashtuners different, if there is a difference

The stanbback will continue to be supported - we are throwing alot of resources at fixing the bugs and making improvements. Then keep looking ahead to see what the next thing will be for the SB.

The TC3 will be completed as well soon.
