Default What color brake calipers do you have on your red car?

Wanting to paint my calipers, think red on a red car might be too much. What has anyone else done? Lets see some speeds.

You should paint them yellow and don't forget to put some Brembo decals on them.

I don't get the sarcastic responses, OP posted in the correct subforum.

I'd go with black if I was you. I have a black MS6 with red calipers, and I agree that red calipers on a red car would be overkill.

if you want a clean look you have two color options with that red car (imho).
High gloss black
Have the calipers sand blasted (and rebuilt obviously) and go heavy on high gloss clear
Red calipers look good on every other color (also imo).

Make sure to put big decals on them too, the same size as the one on your windshield.

I think red looks good on red, just needs to be the same red though. Also, that dg lip looks great. Is that the fiberglass or urethane?

It's carbon fiber actually, managed to snag the lip & spoiler extender for $250.

It's because MSF is a NO RICE ZONE. Unless that paint on your calipers aids in the performance of the car, we don't give a fuck...actually we get all butt hurt.

Are you telling me that every wing and front lip on this forum is wind tunnel tested? Please... Half of what is on these forums is purely for looks.
.
There's nothing wrong with tastfully painting your calipers purely for asthetics (plus it also keeps them from rusting and looking like shit)

Personally I have a '07 VRM MS6 and wondered the same exact thing. I eventually went with yellow. I think it turned out really well. And it's definitely different than most other cars. The only thing is that be careful when you're painting them because ever little bit of brake dust or grease on your gloves will show up with yellow calipers. I think it looks pretty sick though. Now if I can just get rid of my stock wheels...

This is the only pic I have on hand right now. I'll try and get a better one tomorrow.

Great first post.

BTW, welcome to MSF.

P.S. I've heard Mazdas247.com is recruiting.

MSF is definitely a performance oriented site, which is why most of us are here. However, I feel like the "any mod that doesn't aid performance is ricer crap" attitude that rears it's head around here every now and then is a little misplaced.

There are multiple subforums on MSF that are specifically non-performance-oriented. For example: Wheels and Tires (with subforums based on color), Audio & Electronics, Car Detailing, and finally Appearance. It seems a little disingenuous to suggest that someone's post is unwanted when they've aimed it at the correct audience. You have the option of not seeing posts from specific subforums if you don't want to see certain content (I believe - I've not attempted this myself).

Now, if OP had posted this in the General Discussion section, I could understand your comment, but that isn't the case.

And let's be honest here, there's a difference between asking about painting your calipers, on the one hand, and wanting advice on how to go full blown stanced out fagboy, on the other.

I think red is a bit too much. I'd go with high gloss black or maybe yellow ...

Btw. my calipers are green (kind of neon) on my black MS3.

Damn that's a good deal, more info please. Also, can't see your mods on tapatalk, if you have them listed. Are you on coils or springs? Very clean set up.

My vote would be for a bright silver. It looks stockish but will give it a nice clean look imo

I couldn't care less about painting the calipers, only reason I said anything is because of the camber.
Can't wait until that shit isn't the "cool" thing to do anymore.

A word of caution on painting them silver. I went G2 silver on my MGM to keep a stock look and make cleaning easier. After a track weekend or two the fronts turned to mostly gold. They're still easy to clean but I should've just gone gold and my fronts would mach my rears.

I know this thread is old, but just wanted to add in, I went with metallic gold calipers and I think it looks good with the red. And i'm going with black wheels so i think it could be a nice combo

I'd be curious to see your red/gold combo, especially once dark wheels are added.

Gonna eventually paint mine but probably just with G2's black kit. Maybe rice 'em up with some of those Mazdaspeed caliper stickers that are floating around.

Cool man, thanks! I'm running RX8s as my summer wheels, too (stockers back on for winter right now....boooooring), and have them dipped in a semigloss dark anthracite grey. Gold might look pretty awesome with that combo if i decide i want something a bit more interesting than black when i paint the calipers.

That does look rather sharp! Is that a G2 kit, or who did you source the paint from? I've got a dark accent on red theme going with my car (dipped rims, smoked side markers, window tint, carbon fiber spoiler lip) so i still think black calipers would look good on my setup, but this definitely gives me something to ponder when i finally get around to doing it.

Thanks man! So what i did was I actually had a kit left over from when i painted the hatch of my GTi, so i had professional grade primer, adhesion promoter, and top coat "Silber Metallic", so i bought some gold wheel paint (spray can) and after i primed each caliper and went over it with a base coat of black, i did several alternating light flaky coats of the silver and the gold to give it a nice metallic underlay and then finished off with a heavier coat of gold, a light spritz of silver for a sparkle effect and then hit it with the clear coat. I had a shop to myself at the time so the car was lifted and the temp was perfect for painting. Been about a year and it still looks good and nothing has chipped or peeled off.

But i do like your whole black and red theme. It goes well together. The great thing about appearance mods, especially dipping or painting is you can also start over and try something different later.

@_SPEED3GT_; Clicky on the piccy to blow it up to a larger size, then right-click and "view image" to blow it up even further and see it at proper full-resolution (which is biiiig).
_SPEED3GT_ and SpeedThrills like this.
