So there has been much discussion about the largest tires you can put on stock rims with no touching.... 225-45-18 have been said to be safe.
I just order and installed some continental extreme contact 225-45-18. Fantastic tires, but I am touching on deep dips and bumps on hard corners. The touching seems to be on the inside as I cannot see any marks from the outside.
I have decided to get some smaller tires because I do not feel like dealing with the touching issues.
Will it be better/safer to go with 225-40-18 or the stock 215-45-18 to have no touching issues??

I'm almost 99% sure freeflyfreak is running 225/45/18 on stock suspension with no rubbing.

well it obviously depends on the tire, because I am fully stock, and definitely touching front and rear with 225-45-18 continental extreme contact tires.

I know that several people have 225-45-18's on with no touching....

I would love to know if anyone is touching with 225-40-18's on stock rims and sus??

spacers and a fender roll cost less than a new set of tires? i'd opt for an improvement instead of reversion.

If he's rubbing on the inside, spacers would probably help, but then he might have an issue with rubbing on the fender wall, or I might be wrong....

i just installed a set of 225-45-18 blizzaks on a customers stock wheels and suspension and it had some minor rubbing on the inside. She wasnt worried about it as it was only at a full lock turn. also they were snows so they are not gonna be installed year round. I run 225-40-18. im lowered with no rubbing. i hate how the tire looks though, to small.

Stock rims & supension. I have Hankook Ventus RS2.. Got a great deal on them, for the price you cant beat it. As far as handling, all i got for comparison are the stock tires that came with the car new, the Potenzas, the potenzas are 215/45. The potenzas handled better on the curvies.... These seem to give on the curvies, although they are stickier when aggressively launched...

I have 225-40-18 Continental Extreme Contacts on my MS6 wheels and have driven about 20k miles on them including a trip to the Tail of the Dragon. Never rubbed once even with a full load.

I have the Mazdaspeed springs on and it did lower the car some. I am wondering if anyone is have issues rubbing with the V12 Hankook 225/45/18?

I have currently 225/45/18 Nitto Invo - No rubbing whatsoever, stock suspension.

I had 225/40/18 Yokohama Parada Spec 2- No rubbing whatsoever, stock suspension.

By the way the Spec 2's are the only 225/40/18 tyre still within mfg spec for the MS3 stock 7' inch rim. Other's will fit however.

i have 225/40/18 on all 4. there is no rubbing.

One thing i noticed with the 225/40/18 is that when the speedo says im going 70 im actually going 68. Before when i had 215/45/18 when i was going 70 i was going 70.

but 225/45/18 might/might not fix this issue, not a big issue to me.
only thing i see is that it might be a bit higher in diameter. the mid number is the ratio of width to sidewall, i think. i think you will be fine.

I realize that each tire has a different actual diameter and width, and also, lots of guys have 225-45-18 with no rubbing, while some do. Most people have said no rubbing with 225-40-18.
So I guess it has to come down to the actuall brand/model of the tire...it also comes down to the question of who has driven their cars hard with more than 2 adults in it, with 225-40-18's and had no rubbing??
With only me, my girl and the 6 year old in the car, there is hardly any (to no) rubbing at all with the 225-45-18, but if I add 1 more adult person...it is on!

You May be ok. There are guys here with 235-40-18's with no issues. Check the specs...

Yes, like me.

No rubbing with +48 offset Rota SVN's on stock suspension aside from a Cobb RSB. Now I have a baby seat in the back and have only had 1 adult in the back around 200lb, so I can't say there would be no rubbing with two people in the back of size.

You ordered the wrong tires.

225-40-18 are the ones that wont rub.

Well, I just got a set of 225/40/18 all seasons to run a few months. I chickened out on the 225/45's because I didn't want to take the chance of rubbing. I have the Eibach Pro Kit springs on.

I don't think so. They rub on the fenders, not on the inside, so spacers probably won't help. That's why most people that are lowered roll their fenders with 225+.

I have the Hankook V12s in that size.
I have heard a very brief ;ight rub twice in the rear, only with a load and over a huge depression at speed, and not recently, only when brand new.
Normal DD no rubbing at all.

I bought arronc7's RX-8 wheels. He suggested 235/40/18 with stock suspension. Anyone have thoughts on a good size for them? Again, bone stock suspension.

I've got 225/45/18 Dunlops and I rubbed on hard cornering before I had my fenders rolled.

That's the stock size on my speed3. Many people commented on that size not rubbing, and I'm seeing that as stock tire size on Mazda's Vin decoder.
