Coyote 5.0 GT vs C5 Vette...

Yesterday OTW back from getting gas, as I was turning onto a main thoroughfare, I see the outline of a low slung black car charging up behind me. As it gets closer, I see its a new bodied Mustang.

Guy moves over to pass and as he does I see that its some Asian dude in his mid to late 30s, driving a stock looking Coyote 5.0 GT. At this point I'm thinking I'd really like to get this guy to run, since Ive yet to have any decent races after the latest dyno tuning session with Jon from Rich Tune.

I drop gear and speed up to pace him, however when I do, the guy slows down and wont even acknowledge me. Meh, wouldn't be the first time that's happened (I get that a lot given the whole family sedan thing), so I write him off and keep on going. About 20 seconds later I see him shoot past me and blows through a yellow light. I'm not about to run a red, so I stop and go about my business. Its at the next light, however, things get interesting.

As I approach the next red, I see Asian guy in the Mustang stopped next to a red C5 corvette, and I stop behind the Mustang (some minivan is in the 3rd lane). I should also mention that at that time I could see the Vette had at least some sort of aftermarket exhaust, however as for the rest IDK. I'm not a huge Vette guy. Anyway, as the light turns green I see the Stang get on it, only to back off after the C5 didn't launch. As such, I figure this isn't going anywhere and shift into second, at which point I see both cars squat and take off.

Oh its on!

From about 2 car lengths back I nail it @ about 4K RPM. Even though both cars in front of me hit before I did neither car was pulling away. 5K RPM comes and I'm starting to gain ground on both cars, with the Mustang pulling away from the Vette at a decent clip. As I ride through the gear I see both cars shift and shoot black soot out their exhausts (nothing like my car though, lol see avatar) so I know they are both on it with determination.

I keep gaining (albeit more slowly on the Mustang), move over into the now clear 3rd lane, and grab for 3rd at ~7K with full FFS glory! Only issue is that FFS wasn't enabled (d'oh). After what seemed like an eternity I manage to get it into gear properly and get back to work. By the end of 3rd I was even with the C5, shortly after which he had enough and quit. Dude dropped back and I didn't see him again.

The Mustang on the other hand is still going full tilt, slamming through his gears and shooting more soot out the back between shifts. All this time, I am getting closer and closer. Near the top of 4th My front bumper is finally overlapping with his rear... at which point dude shut down and hit the brakes pretty hard. Fair enough given that we were doing almost a buck twenty by then, but it was still a blue balls moment for me.

I coast down to normal speeds and slow for a light coming up. The Mustang pulls up next to me, but the guy still wont look over. Hes busy texting (or pretending to text) on his gay iPhone. Shortly after I need to make my turn and wash my hands of the situation.

Anyway, I realize a chase isn't a race, however I found this to be rather educational regarding my relative pulling power in a real world application. I quite obviously have a good enough power to weight ratio to pull on both of these cars from a roll (disadvantage --> AWD, lol), which makes me happy for the time being. Of course the fact that the Mustang is probably stock makes me somewhat of a sad panda. Heh.


TL;DR: My MS6 (and a missed shift) > stock 5.0 > C5 Corvette with an exhaust, from a low speed 2nd gear sushi-roll.

Chea but unless you have that bitch running at all times you will never be able to capture every race. I usually just bring mine to the local meets where i know the chances are great for some play time.
