Default ms3 vs. full bolt eg-k24

so at a car meet tonight, one of the guys was talking about his 95 hatch with a fully bolted k24 swap. well i asked to see and it was in fact a k24 z1 i believe he said.. went for a ride and he was talking about how much torque it has.. lolz... so i said take a ride with me, he did. and acted like a giddy school girl!! when we got bad his friend started talking about power to weight, and said that he thinks his friends car would pull mine so i said we can find out. ... long story short went from about 40. i was in 3rd. i was also heat soaked b/c top mount fail bats were 158!! i still pulled about a car on him. 2nd run, same gear and speed, i pulled and put at least 4 cars on him! bats were 110.. we stopped at a red light and he even said i pulled like hell on the second run! so im happy with that.

You don't have to quote Wiki, I already told you what car the z1 and z3 come from.

The z3 can't be "bolted" either because it has an integrated exhaust manifold.

Any other ricer tales you would like me to shit on for you?

So your intake/tune only ms3 is trapping greater than 107. LOL Come on op get real. Fully bolted/tuned with eth or meth 3's are trapping like 110.

If he did have a z1 block i seriously doubt he was running the head that came on that motor because its crap, it would need a k20z1 or k20z3 head to make any real power. The k24z3 (tsx) is most likely what he was running which still isnt all that impressive in an eg.

either way, FYHN

Sorry to bump this old ass thread, i can't believe it's this old actually, that means my asshole friend has had his exhaust sitting on his apartment floor for this long? ffs.

Lol i can set this thread straight. I tuned the hatch's engine the OP is talking about...

It's a k24a1 bottom end, k20z1 cylinder head making over 200 whp in a 2300ish lb hatch. It trapped 105 mph at the track with a PRB intake manifold and was running an RBC intake manifold that night not yet fully retuned. It did have noticeably more top end though. Achilles heel for this setup is it can only rev to 7400 so he doesn't have much time in each gear. This car has 12 second time slips on slicks in the glove compartment without the tune or RBC intake manifold, pretty sure it's got a low 12 second pass in it now.

Car has 2.36" (60mm) exhaust robbing about 15 whp of power for the entire rev range.

Anyways, OP only massaged the story a little bit

I feel like this setup is lacking. I've seen multiple k24/k20's making 350 WHP all motor, hell a straight k24 makes almost 200whp stock. Plus the redline is pretty low.

350whp??? I thought the 240-270whp range was what bolted/cammed/tuned k20/24's were getting..

350 whp all motor is an all out drag engine 2.6+ liters. The average streetable built/cammed k24 setup is making 270-300 whp. Which is plenty enough for 11 second passes actually.

This car has quite a few lacking parts to it that i'm waiting on the motherfucker to change out in order to retune it (2.36" exhaust -> 3" 3" cai to 3.5", ported intake manifold), after which it should see 110+ trap speeds.

Anyways, that's all i guess. OP's car definitely pulls, but i've never been in an MS3 that didn't, so it didn't seem like anything special to me.

That's true, I was just saying your guy is down on almost 100 HP of what he should be. I may have picked an extreme example lol.

Well yeah, he doesn't have 12.5:1 compression pistons nor camshafts. Ain't gonna do those numbers without that O_o

Also i'm the friend that said i thought "it would pull his car"

I said i thought it'd be a great race. Buddy told me after the race first run he put a car on OP and 2nd run OP put 2 cars on him.

All in all, nbd, runs among friends.

I find it hard to believe that this car would "need" a full 3 inch exhaust to free up power.

Easy when your cylinder head is flowing 300 cfm, like a stock k20 head does.

3" exhaust is the go to exhaust size for all motor hondas. Believe it or not, open header actually picks up torque and horsepower over 3" exhaust with a k24 heh.

Lulz. Way to straighten it out w00t. This is 3.slow6mt. I would've expected more than 105mph traps out of a K24 hatch, but as you said, he is not running the best mods.

Mods on the OP?

I do agree though with the way the flow rates of k20 heads are they do actually gain from larger exhausts when you build them. People don't realize just how well these motors flow I always show respect to them. Slow hatch is still slow though! (hey had to throw in some FYHN hate)
