Revolution Performance Motorsports Revolution Performance Manufacturing (RPM) was started by three Mazda 6 enthusiasts in early 2004 under a simple premise: to develop and manufacture new products for the Mazda 6 at an affordable price. We began to realize our purpose with the short throw shifter and gas hood lifter kits for that vehicle. Since then, we have added many new aftermarket products from well-known manufacturers and continue to expand to offer products for other vehicles with the goal of having the best prices and customer service on the 'net.

Default RPM: let's see how take care of your customers

I'll start this off with saying that I have purchased several parts from RPM without the first problem: until now and now is the worst possible time. I'm in the middle of having a BT kit from ATP installed on my 11' Speed. It's been problem after problem. I bought a gtx3071r EWG kit and a CPe manifold. I already have CPe's down pipe. My kit came with a Tial 38mm WG and after realizing that the manifold was for a 44mm, we decided to mount it on the turbo. Obviously, the CPe DP hasn't been tested with the ATP kit b/c there is not enough clearance to get it in. So, I can either buy a new WG, but then hot gases get dumped all onto my firewall b/c of the poor design of the manifold, or a new DP. I decide the easiest route would be to buy an ATP DP. I talked with Linda there who was very helpful and willing. So, on top of this, the guy doing the install is going on vacation this coming Wednesday. I knew this, but since my car has been there since last Wednsday, I never thought it would be a problem, but now it is. I could have bought the DP straight from ATP, but since RPM is physically closer to me, I decided to order it from them, so I did and paid for 2 day shipping, so I should have it by Tuesday and all would be well. Well, it's not. I tried calling RPM all day with no answer. I emailed repeatedly, stressing the importance that the DP go out that day. Later Friday night, I got an email from RPM, no name included, saying that they were sorry, but he had been "out of the office" all day and they didn't have the DP they sold me and it was going to have to be ordered from ATP. So now, I was told that shipping was $125 from ATP(which I could have done myself had I known they didn't actually have the part they sold me) and because of this I was going to have to pay another $44 to get it by Tuesday. So let me re-cap: I ordered a part that had no indication of being out of stock and paid for 2 day delivery, which if they had it and shipped it out, would have been here for $285 + $40 something for 2 day delivery. Now, b/c they didn't actually have it, I'm having to pay another $44 to get it in time. Basically, if I don't get my DP by lunch Tuesday, my car will sit until the 27th, through my birthday (which is why I'm doing this as a present to myself and it will sit through Import Alliance. I'm not saying all of this is RPM's fault, all I am saying is if they don't have a part in stock, they really need to have something showing it out of stock (this is 2014 you know) and if they had answered my repeated calls, I could have gotten it shipped out Friday straight from ATP. I am always the first to support the small businesses (ask JBR), but if they are going to drop ship so they don't have to keep a big inventory thing, they need to make things right when it causes problem like this. They have agreed to pay a portion of the overnight shipping, which I appreciate, but this whole order has been botched from the get go and I don't think its right that I'm having to pay more because they were "out of the office most of the day" and they "don't stock much from ATP", which is definitely not reflected on their web site. So I'm going to wait and see if my part gets to me when I need it, but I just wanted others to know that if your order is time sensitive like mine was, I'm not sure RPM is who you need to get it from.

First off. Try paragraphs.

Second. Don't ever order something when it is time sensitive. Not all these smaller vendors have these parts just laying around ready to ship. Since the order was so timely sensitive it was your responsibility to call them directly for the order. If they couldn't do it in the time you needed then you move to the next and see what they can do.

On top of that you are having someone else build your car. You are at their mercy. If you were cool with your local Nator Chapter I'm sure they would be more than willing to pitch in and git er done.

But. Noobs gonna noob.
Raider, KiwiFlavor and HBspeed like this.

The OP, you need to relax and you need to understand that when you decide to modify a car, you loose the ability to give a shit about a schedule.

All I read there is that you "Thought" you could squeeze a mod in a short time period and at the same time are relying on others to give a fuck about you..

LOL

#1 - work on your own car.

#2 - do more research and know what shit you need before busting open a car that you "need" in a week.

#3 - people go on vacation. Should have tried a different number to confirm.

I'm sorry to see that this happened to you. I know that down time is extremely frustrating. I also know that Donny (the guy who sent you the email) works extremely hard to satisfy everyone who places an order.

I'm not sure is this is common knowledge or not but RPM is currently a one-man show. I'm not trying to make excuses. I'm just giving a reason for why your call wasn't returned that day. He is only human, and I can only speculate as to why he was out for the day.

If you or whoever else reads this, has an urgent issue and you can't get ahold of Donny through the standard channels of communication, you are always more than welcome to pm or email me. If it is something that is truly time sensitive, I can call Donny's personal number and we can work out a resolution that way.

Just so I can make sure I've got it straight; the difference between overnight and 2nd day shipping was $44 correct?

What you have to consider is if this would bother you if you weren't in a rush. I'd guess you wouldn't be nearly as bent out of shape.

Also, if it was so important, you should have called before ordering. If they don't answer, call a different vendor.

I don't see them doing anything "wrong".

Your first and biggest mistake was not assuming that the default outcome would be failure.

Once that is understood everything else goes smoothly.

Since the OP wants everyone to know what's going on, I'll fill everyone in with the details.
  1. OP called twice at 11:09am on Friday and there was no answer because I was out of the office.

  2. OP placed order for ATP catless downpipe at 11:37am on Friday. Retail price for downpipe is $299 plus shipping. We sell it for $283.95 with free ground shipping. Our site calculated 2-day shipping at $29.06.

  3. We do not stock ATP downpipes. ATP charges $27.82 for ground shipping, $81.79 for 2-day (by 5pm), $93.80 for 2-day A.M. (by 10:30am), $124.52 for Next Day Saver (by 5pm), and $138.35 for Next Day (by 10:30am).

  4. OP sent email at 3:43pm on Friday stating, "Please confirm that it shipped out today."

  5. OP left voicemail at 5:07pm on Friday stating that our voicemail system was having issues (it was) and trying to find out if his order had shipped out because it was very important that it did.

  6. I responded to OP's email as soon as I could, which happened to be at 10:12pm on Friday stating, "Unfortunately, it did not go out today. Additionally, ATP's charge for 2nd day is $53, rather than the $29 that was calculated by our site. That said, we will absorb the difference due to the delay if it's okay that it ships on Monday. Please let us know how you would like to proceed."

  7. OP replied at 10:24pm on Friday stating, "I've got to have it no later than Tuesday!! I don't know what happened on your end, but I ordered it from you only because you are physically closer and I've received stuff from you quickly in the past. If it couldn't go out today, you should have let me know because I've been dealing with ATP with my problem and they would have helped me. Please get it to me next day. I guess I'll just have to pay the extra shipping."

  8. I replied at 7:25am on Saturday morning stating, "Well, it will be shipping direct from ATP, anyhow. We stock many items, but not much from ATP. I was out of the office most of the day on Friday, but I let you know as soon as I could. I'm sorry it wasn't sooner. ATP charges $125 for next day, but we'll cover some of it. Your additional cost would just be $44."

  9. OP replied at 11:44am on Saturday stating, "Look, I'm going to try not to be a dick about this, but I had been dealing with ATP on the phone all day and could have easily ordered from them, but didn't because you are closer and I've had good experiences from you in the past. I know you're a small company, but if you didn't have the part in stock, you should have contacted me, or had it showing out of stock. My installer is leaving to go out of town Wednesday. I have got to have that DP by Tuesday. I'll pay whatever extra, but nothing you've told me is my fault. If you had it like your website represented you did, I would have easily gotten it by Tuesday at the price I paid.
If there is any problems whatsoever getting it drop shipped, please let me know so I can go another route."

  10. I replied at 3:19pm on Saturday stating, "I understand. I never said it was your fault, nor had any intention of it sounding that way. I was just giving you the facts. I also apologized for not letting you know sooner. I will contact ATP first thing on Monday (they open at 10am Pacific) and follow up with you shortly thereafter."

  11. OP made this thread at 10:39pm on Saturday.
It was, and still is, my intention to speak with ATP on Monday morning to see what the best option for getting it to the OP on Tuesday will be. If they are able to use our FedEx account, we may be able to save some money on the overnight shipping, which we would pass along to the OP. That said, we didn't know the OP needed this by noon on Tuesday until we read his post, and even if it had shipped out on Friday, UPS has until the end of the day on Tuesday to deliver standard 2-day shipments, which means it still may not have met his deadline. Now that we know this, we can make sure that it gets there by noon, albeit at an additional cost.

We are perfectly capable of meeting tight deadlines when we are given a heads up, assuming the parts are available. We stock parts from a number of manufacturers and most items are delivered within 2-3 days even with our free ground shipping. This was just a case where we had no advance notice, didn't stock the part, and I (who processes all of the orders) was out of the office when the order came in. That said, I responded as quickly as I could, provided solutions, covered as much of the additional costs as I could, and still plan to follow up first thing Monday to make this happen.

Thank you for filling in the holes. From past orders, if it had gone out Friday I would have gotten it by noon Tuesday as needed. That was pretty much the reason for all the calls and emails. Just do your best for me please. If it was inappropriate for me to post this on our forum, sorry, but that's pretty, to my knowledge that's what this site is about: discussing problems, fails and triumphs with our mazdaspeeds. I've done some wrenching on my car, I did the FMIC and a couple other things, OCC, WMI, but I think BT is beyond my realm of abilities and I wanted it done before my birthday. You can't tell from a website how big a company is. If I had any idea that they didn't have the DP in stock like Edge and a couple other places did, I wouldn't have ordered after not getting anyone on the phone, but I just trusted them to have it. I think he's going to do what he can. Like I said before: I'm not trying to bash RPM. This was just a messed up situation at a bad time.

Hey it could have been a lot worse, when I put my downpipe in I had a stud/nut seize halfway off, ended up having to pull the turbo to try and get it out, had to take it to a machine shop and get it drilled out. Once pulled I also realized I had enough shaft play that the turbine was hitting the walls on the intake side so I got it rebuilt.

Expected downtime, 1 weekend. Actual downtime, a little over 2 weeks, also a couple hundred more in cost.

Haha I'm pretty much at the same point. I popped my hood to fix a rattle, two hours later I had my GTX3071R out and researching new CHRA LOL. Stupid $700-$1300 rattle!

Back to the main topic. I always make verbal contact with a vendor before placing the order if what I need is very important and I need it ASAP. Sounds like both sides are getting it handled.

Default RPM: let's see how take care of your customers

What I'm still confused about is OP saying a cp-e downpipe doesn't work with the atp kit when it does. I and many others have successfully run that downpipe on the setup.

Note: having worked for a very large hard parts manufacturer as sales for the company it's hard to always answer the phone, check emails and do the other million things you've got going on and are responsible for. A lot of companies like rpm, edge, atp etc are drop ship vendors for the majority of their parts, that doesn't mean they have to disclose that to you right away on their website. They typically call the vendor after they get your order to check stock then proceed accordingly. I can tell you from first hand knowledge the vendor ordering for the drop ship usually gets it in time for order placement, but the end vendor can't always get the drop ship out that day, but then again sometimes the vendor doesn't get the order in the same day and then the drop ship vendor looks bad ( believe me, I've dealt with plenty of both ).

My point here is, don't rush to conclusions especially when it's a Friday and you're going into the weekend, be lucky he was even replying to your emails on the weekend because I get my emails on my phone for work and they just pile up all weekend long until Monday morning. He went above and beyond for you and let you know exactly what he was doing to handle it and was even generous enough to cover shipping that more than likely now are putting him in the red on this downpipe he sold to you. To me, that's damn good customer service, you prematurely jumped the gun. Just my 2 cents.

A couple hundred is me trying not to admit how much I actually spent having a new chra put in a k04, let's just say it cost the same as people were trying to sell used k04s for, but was still cheaper than just biting the bullet and going bnr, I couldn't afford it at the time. And time was a bit of a factor in getting it back.

Talked to ATP, and while they could use our FedEx account, our rates were higher than theirs, so it didn't help. I talked to OP and he opted to pay an additional $58 to have the downpipe guaranteed to be there by noon tomorrow. I covered as much of the shipping as I could with my potential profit, so OP is getting this at my cost. He's not saving as much as he had planned, but he's still paying less than if he had ordered it directly from ATP on Friday with 2-day shipping.

Outrageous! You need to ship some handjobs to truly make things right no later than 5 minutes ago!

Yeah, but this whole thing was just an opportunity anyway! If only we were all so lucky to have the opportunity to bend over backwards and cover someone else's poor planning to our own detriment...

This was just a messed up situation at a bad time.

this is 100% OPs fault because most orders dont get processed in most companies till after 1pm and they will ship monday he would have gotten wensday.

OP you fucked up by not getting someone on the phone to tell you that they can get it to you in that time frame, some places take an entire 24 hours plus before they even process your payment. even if they dis "ship" Friday it would not have physically gone anywhere until Monday that shit would have sat at a ups or FedEx hub till then so realistically and this is the god damned truth right here (I have made this mistake before) -> I have ordered something OVERNIGHT shipping Friday just like you ! and it does not ship till Monday ! and i got it Tuesday so even with all your fucked up logic if RPM had shipped that 10 AM FRIDAY you still would not have gotten it till Wednesday with two day shipping so this entire thread is a fucking joke.

There is no company website out there that you are guaranteed that anyone will even look at your order the same day let alone guarantee a shipment delivery without first calling and arranging such. I understand RPM was closed and that right there is when you should have order from ATP.

And Im not trying to be a dick but this is the fucking truth even if they had shipped Friday you would still be holding your dick till Wednesday

this was no fault of RPMS and they just ate at least 60$ profit just to satisfy you, thanks for robbing them ..... un justified.

I have seen massive ass ton cases of vendor fail on MSF but alas this is NOT one of those cases. honestly If i were RPM I would ahve simply apologized that I cant fulfill your needs, refunded you in total and sent you off.

also I promise you that you simply handled your build wrong too, you should have had the CPE manifold modified to fit your needs and saved time and money would have costed you 50$ to have it refabbed but even further like lumberjack said I bet it fits but your installer just dont know how to make it work and if it did not fit you should have simply fabbed it.

I wish I had something to buy at the moment; OP’s fail looks like a customer service win to the rest of us....Take it from someone that was in customer service (and shipping/receiving) for a long time, sometimes the best answer is no.

I have ordered time sensitive parts, but email/webstore will NEVER work in that situation, EVER.

If you ever need parts QUICKLY (and its still a bit of a crap shoot), you call in person early in the AM, you verify part is in THEIR hands and not drop shipped, you give them CC payment and you walk the process through. I have done that effectively a bunch of times.

Never place an order online and expect that kind of turnaround.

OP doesn't know what a drop shipment is, found a yutz who can't install a downpipe to install a downpipe.

This thread is a 1/10 at best.

OP do yourself a favor and shut this down before you get clowned any harder.

I see this as both RPM and OPs mistake. I've gone through the same crap A LOT with websites (Even LARGE websites/stores) not listing parts in stock and emailing me a day later about a stupid "Backorder" so I believe websites should at least show if items are in stock or not ALREADY on the website(How hard could that be?). To prevent MANY problems such as these or back orders where I had to wait 2-3 days to get my money back and purchase somewhere else.

I ordered my bnrs3 from rpm on a Saturday or it might have been a Sunday, I don't remember but it was a weekend day, and I literally got a call 20 min after from Donny telling me it was a few week backorder for the bnr. Donny asked if that worked for my time frame and whether I wanted to still order everything I had ordered from them. I never expect anyone in any business to answer me on a weekend. That to me was beyond good customer service. We have some great vendors here and RPM is definitely one of them.

Lol. Ninja trying to have someone else build his car for him on his tight deadline.

Hahahahahahaha.

Deadline should have been 2 weeks and it would have still been tight.

I covered as much of the shipping as I could with my potential profit, so OP is getting this at my cost. He's not saving as much as he had planned, but he's still paying less than if he had ordered it directly from ATP on Friday with 2-day shipping.

This is why I'll be checking with RPM first for all my parts needs. If they are doing this for the OP and not making a penny off of his sale, imagine what they will do for a customer that they are making a profit on. But, it sure sounds like OP rushed into something he wasn't truly prepared for.

I haven’t seen anyone else on the thread mention this option, but if you drive the car to your installer and its running fine with no issues, run into problems with the install and need parts in a rush, but NEED the car, then put that bitch back together, drive her home and go back to the drawing board. Gotta think about wants vs. needs brommando. Just my 2¢.
