I'm curious to the reason you are rebuilding the GE block rather than picking up a GTE for like 2k?

I see 1JZs go for $1400k on craigslist. But for a CA reg vehicle, unless you convert/add all emission parts to USDM spec, you won't pass smog. Plus wiring can be a bitch.

I want this to be a dependable driver once I'm done with it, which will mean getting it to pass smog.

Even if I found a USDM 2jzgte for sale, the wiring would be intense, and I'm not much of an electrical guy..

I almost went for a VH45DE swap...

Ahh CA. I've been looking into getting into an IS300 and doing GTE + v161. May happen sometime next year if I don't end up changing my mind.

V series getrag transmissions are too much money IMO. I'm starting to notice a lot of guys pushing for different adapter plate kits to mate other manufacturer platform transmission to the 1jz/2jzs.

One of the more versatile, power-capable swaps is a 350z 6 speed out of the 2004+ models (apparently, they had synchro issues on the years before). You can find those used on ebay for $700 or lower if you are lucky, and an adapter plate can run you $200-350. That trans is good for 900 whp. A hell of a lot cheaper than a $3,500 V Series getrag USED. The other problem is the rear-end as well...

I have an R154 now, but the 300zx twin turbo 5 speed transmission can hold up to 800 whp, and you can find them for about $4-500. Just need to find a shop that will machine together an adapter plate for that transmission.

I do like the IS300s, the VVT-i engines are the way to go for the torque early on in the powerband and at higher RPMs as well, especially with a single turbo setup (can help with lag ALOT). But I have to say, I'm beginning to become extremely attracted to the GS300s

Yeah but the only difference is one is NA and one comes with a turbo, right? Why not just buy a turbo manifold, turbo and call it a day? Or hell even building the 2jzge would be cheaper than a swap and make shit tons more power.

Because the gte blocks come with a great CR for shitloads of boost, are OEM with oil squirters, and I guess that's really all the benefits lol but a 1jz are a little more rev happier than the 2jz family blocks/heads.

I like how you didn't bother taping off the hoses, cables/lines, brake booster, top hats, or steering rack. I'd even venture to say you didn't bother prepping it before laying down that paint. Just throw a trash bag over the cross member and call it a day. Classy.

I'm deleting the ABS system. Getting new brake lines. Steering rack was covered when I painted it. I sanded down and primed the bay before I laid a few coats of high temp white. My intention was to respray the brake booster/master vac. I'm completely re working the suspension setup, which means those top hats will be gone soon. And yes, I have taken shortcuts.

Going to be a change of plans on this project. Since I'm stocking out completely on the genpu, all funds will go towards the Sexus SC.

Going with a 2JZGTE swap w/ the R154 transmission that I already have (going to have Driftmotion do all of the work for me, they will maintenance/inspect the engine and trans before installing, and they do all custom wiring inhouse if need be, including things like auto ECU-manual trans, speedometer conversion/speed gearing sensor, etc)

Going to plastidip the entire car a flat matte black/charcoal (Saw a supra this last weekend at the dyno day in this color/paint and fell in love).

Just going to get it running on the twins at first and once it is up and running and has current tags thanks to a smog buddy of mine, I will then go AEM EMS V2 (unless I can get my hands on a newer EMS for a cheap price) and convert to single turbo. Stay tuned.
