Same thing happened in Gen 1 land, but they never could get their act together and get people in the states to distribute it. At that time Piasini was the first outfit to get tuning going by internal flashing. CP-e already had their piggyback on the market. Many were waiting for Cobb as well.

The only ECUTek dealer in TX is in Austin, and it looks like they only do Subi/DSM stuff.

Ecutek can be done on a Gen 2 here in Australia.
Here is a graph for a 100% stock car with tune done.

Its only been available here on the Gen 2 for a few weeks.
After a chat with the head tuner at MRT over here it sounds great.
Especially the control over the throttle plate, Getting rid of the limitations in the first few gears.

Is there anyone in the states that's tuning Mazdas with these things? I'd really like to check into that. seaton, did you mean control the throttle plate IN ADDITION to removing limits from the first three gears? I think that the boost is limited in the first three gears, but the throttle plate starts closing at high RPMs. If it indeed does have throttle plate control, then that would put it at the top in flexibility for gen 2 tuners.

from what i was told by their tuner, its all controlled by the throttle plate in his car. The first few gears and the top end closing. boost is restricted because of the throttle plate.
They can get rid of both.....

OK, we just need someone in the US that will tune Mazdas with it then. Austin is 5 hours away from me, is there anyone on MSF that is near a dealer and would check into their interest in working with us?

Started a new thread for Texas peeps. The guy in Austin would be willing to buy the software to tune Mazda platform if there was enough interest. Put in a word over on the other thread if you want a Pro Tune with ECUTek:

How Many TEXAS drivers interested in ECUTek Tune?

I'm pretty sure that the gen 2 has limits in 3rd also, as well as more aggressive limitations in 1st and 2nd. I've heard from more than one source that 4th is the first gear that has no boost limitations. That's the reason why the acceleration is slower than the gen 1.

I was exaggerating a little, lol. I think it takes about 3. Would you be interested in speaking to the dealer in Austin?

I had a very long talk with their tuner, he said that there is definately limitations in the first 3 gears. Even 4th is limited. Only by a few percent though. With a bit of luck I'll be doing an Ecutek tune in the next month.

PM sent. The ECUTek for the other cars is only $500. Not bad if it turns out to be a good tuning solution.

How is it, gears 3 and 4 have limitation? That makes absolutely no sense at all and im not buying it. If that was the case, the car would be making less horsepower for one.

1st def limited.. 2nd through 4th, i cant see this. If Mazda implemented the throttle plate closing like Ford did on the mustangs starting in 05, they would have to bump the HP to make up for it.

I really don't think that 4th is limited. I'll try and find some info to post on 2nd and 3rd.

Mazdaspeed3 Mazdaspeed3

Not that this sets it in stone, but Wiki states that the gen 1 is limited in 1st and 2nd. I'll try to dig up some more info on the gen 2 in a bit.

2010 Mazdaspeed 3 - First Drive Review - Auto Reviews - Car and Driver
Here's one that states that the 2010 is limited in 1st and 2nd. Still hunting for something on 3rd. It seems like I read a lot about it when I first got the car, and now I can't find anything on it, lol.

Got one. I'll post the paragraph so that you don't have to read the whole thing.

Review: 2010 Mazdaspeed3 is sitting on the bubble — Autoblog

Here's why. The Speed3 sends oodles of power to the front wheels alone: 263 horsepower and a very healthy 280 pound-feet or torque to be precise. Knowing full well that all that grunt would totally overwhelm the front tires, Mazda rigged a system that prohibits the motor's full fury in first, second and third gear depending on available traction and steering angle. Still, even with this nanny in place, the engine momentarily stumps up some frankly frightening torque-steer before the electronics cut in. So imagine flooring it, feeling the steering wheel about to wrestled from your hands, and then feeling the power drop. It's not exactly the best sensation on dry pavement, and it's straight-up nerve-racking in the wet and oily.

I know for a fact its the first 3 gears and have been struggling to get around the SWAS (steering wheel angle sensor) somehow.

Check out THIS thread about the SWAS....

the swas boost control is different. people are talking about boost being limited when going in a straight line. Its possible the tuner is just confusing people by referring to the "boost limits" in the upper rpms. There is no reason for mazda to limit boost in anything above 2nd gear

MZM in Austin, TX is willing to do tuning on the MS3 if there is enough interest. So, anyone that is willing to make the drive needs to post up. Tuner, tune, and dyno for about $800. Pretty good deal in my experience.

you can see the torque is limited...floor it in 2nd and 3rd, boost will hit +15 for a few seconds then drop 1 notch and hold...

its not a leak, cause it would do this stock also...and I didn't have a loose stock TIP.
