Help your tuner help you...

I hope this helps everyone, and you can ignore these ideas if your tuner has a specific way of doing things, but in the hopes of keeping what is a good track record for our tuners...

These easy things could help smooth the process, not only in terms of time, but also keep our tuners from making costly errors if possible.

1) although it may not be always possible: the same e-mail address is used in communication. (you can imagine trying to remember that username sillyfastms3 = sexymuffin123 = Larry Templeton alone, now imagine getting e-mails from both sexymuffin123@aol and sweetcheeksmcgee@comcast). It gets confusing is the point I'm trying to make. LOL.

2) The same e-mail "string" is used... It is a 1,000 times easier to go back and read past issues, find out info needed etc if there is one long continuous e-mail throughout the process.

3) You include your msf username and real name in the event you cannot always e-mail logs etc. from the same address.

4) your sig on msf is up to date

5) your car is in good mechanical condition

6) you do not switch gasoline brands once you've started tuning (unless you and the tuner agree that it is a good idea to do so)

7) Please include the model year of your car in each e-mail if possible.

Speaking of such things, I've sent you a few emails and a PM about my tuning but haven't heard back. I followed rules 1,2 and 3. LOL.

If you're no longer tuning me, that's cool. Just haven't heard back. I believe I even sent you some logs.

I can't deny that it is very difficult to keep up.

I also changed my logs to my user name and the map revision it was derived from as well - I presume that would be useful instead of just datalog3.csv

I've seen first hand the amount of notifications Rob gets on MSF alone. I cant imagine adding to that, all the emails he gets. Throw in a full time job, and some spare time to whack, you have got your hands full.


I know I dont have to say it either, but I hope everyone understands how busy these guys are, and that they arent ignoring you. Unless youre a dick, then you deserve to be ignored.

Good thread Rob, I'm sure simple things like what was mentioned don't take the user anymore time to do but can greatly help out the tuner.

Consistent email address is a great thing- trying to keep track of names & emails etc is a job all by itself! I've found having my email all end up in gmail helps quite a bit since I can just search a name & get the entire communication history in one shot. But(!) having different accounts and/or names can break even gmail's great search.

I prefer to create new email for each map revision with subject indicating the revision (Flow v4 attached, Flow v5 attached etc). Send the logs back in a reply to the email that contained the map, it's easier for both of us to keep track that way!


And, last, when you send WOT logs don't start & stop the log with the throttle at 99%. Let's see a few seconds before and after the run! I;m just as interested in how it transitions into and out of the WOT run as I am in the run itself
