Default How Many TEXAS drivers interested in ECUTek Tune?

I just got off the phone with MZM Performance in Austin, TX and they are going to check into the ECUTek software costs for the Mazda platform. He said he would be interested in tuning for our platform if there was enough interest.

Looks like the ECUTek Software can do everything. The only cons with this would be that you can't tweak it yourself.

Here's a link for the ECUTek stats ect..
http://www.ecutek.com/products/proec...an/mazda_disi/

MZM does not normally tune for the Mazda platform, but they have a lot of experience with Subaru and Mitsubishi. I know some guys tuned by them and it's top notch.

A little more info about ECUTek & Data Logger:
http://www.ecutek.com/products/easyecu/

So how many Texas peeps would be interested in a Pro Tune /w Dyno?

I would certainly be interested. How much would we be looking at for the tuner + tune + dyno out the door? Austin is a pretty good drive, but if they can control the throttle plate with it, I would make the trip.

Not sure on cost yet, they are going to get back with me soon as they have the licensing costs for the Mazda software. They sell the equipment / data logger / tune for the Subi and Mitsu for about $800 so it should be similar for us.

Not bad at all! Hopefully it will be about the same cost. I want to make sure that they can confirm throttle plate control though.

The cool thing with them is that they also have a dyno as well. So if you wanted to you can actually dyno the car while your there

To answer some of the questions... Yes it removes throttle close in 1/2nd gear. And yes it would be a dyno tune, not a off the shelf map. You take the car in and they tune on mustang dyno and flash ur ecu.

Any other questions let me know I'll try to find out.

The stereotypical Jersey accent is much more annoying than the stereotypical Texas accent.

I don't just mean the limits in the low gears, I mean the throttle plate closing at high RPM also. When pharoh did his SB tune, his throttle plate was starting to close at 4700RPM. I think by 5800 it was totally closed. If we can remove that restriction, and add meth injection to protect the stock turbo at high RPM, this car would be much more fun.

If this gets rolling, I'd like to see what kind of gains you guys see with the tune. $800 will also buy a TMIC and an Intake, so if it's about 40-ish hp it'll be in the same neighborhood. And you'll probably have to upgrade your fuel pumps when you tune.

I think this with an intake/tmic/HPFP would make for a very fun car to drive. Plus you could tune out knock, maybe go 1 step colder plugs and have a generally safe tune so you don't boom.

If the tune removes the 1st and 2nd gear restrictions, and let's you have full power to red line it's 10x better than any other mod in my opinion.

We need to see some more interest in this platform though, because the tuner is not going to buy the software licenses for the 4 people in this thread that have shown interest. We will probably need at least 10.

I've been trying to find some people to do it, but no one seems to want to pull the trigger. Maybe I should take some info to a DFW Mazdas meet and see if any of the local crowd would jump on this.

The main issue with Dallas is that Cobb is right down the road, so that's where everyone goes for anything around here. That's all well and good for gen 1 or MS6, but Cobb has nothing but a few bolt-ons for gen 2. We may have to wait until more gen 2s start getting out there to get results. Are there any meets in Austin that someone could talk to the local guys there about this?

There is also a personal version of ECU TEK that I think is reasonably priced, if it's been released. That would allow you to tweak on your own.

That's one thing that I would be afraid to do on my own. I'll try to pull the motor out of a car with nothing but jackstands and a crescent wrench, but when you start pulling up data logs and charts and blah blah blah, my brain starts to bleed, lol. Guess I'm still a little bit old school.

Would any of the gen 1 and MS6 guys be interested in this too? I know that there's a ton of tuning solutions out for them, but that could possibly bump up our numbers to get this thing going.
