Default what type of oil are you guys using?

so i went today to the dealership to get my oil changed i was pissed when they told me that they dont put synthetic in the car and wanted way to much to make it synthetic but i have free oil changes for 3 years so what i was planning on doing was whenever i need to ge the oil changed i go there and get it done so its on record but then i go home and put synthetic in but what i was wondering is what oil is everybody using? for this oil change i ordered 6 quarts of redline full synthetic so i was gonna try that out for now.

Penz plat but honestly we don't need to use oil in our cars, they run on pure awesomeness. I still use pp for added safety.

You're obviously not listening.

Aside from that, if the dealer offered me free oil changes for 3 years, but only put conventional oil in, I'd just have them change it every two weeks.

If this is sarcasm/trolling I will un-groan and thank.
If not, Mobil 1 is quite possibly the WORST synthetic you could use for our application.
Been covered multiple times.
I'm not even gonna include why.

ROTELLA T6 5w-40

Buy your own oil and take it to the dealership. They should still change it for you and supply the new filter.

I swear by ROTELLA T6 5w-40, but has anyone used Royal Purple? I've been seeing a lot of advertisements for it lately and it made me wonder.

Royal purple's regular syn has been known to lose viscosity much quicker than other syns, but their race syn (hard to find and pricey) is excellent stuff.

OP, for a serious answer, Shell Rotella T6 is good stuff for the money. It's like $25 at wally-world for 5 quarts. That's what I use. Like Tokay444 said, M1 10W30 is not the best stuff to be using.

I was going to ignore this as another useless "what oil should I use?" thread, but I'm feeling generous today so I'll respond and try as hard as I can to be helpful.

Having the dealer change your oil with whatever they use (I heard it was olive, but whatever) simply to document regular engine maintenance and then going home to do redundant oil changes immediately afterward because you don't like the oil they use is fucking retarded.

If you simply want to document your oil changes and are prepared to buy and change the oil yourself as you claim to be, buy whatever you like, change it yourself, and keep the receipts for proof.

If you want to take advantage of the dealer oil change offer but don't want them to use their oil, buy your own and bring it to them. As long as it's the right grade (no T6 5W-40, for example) they'll use yours because it's cheaper for them.

But, honestly, as long as the oil is changed every 3,000 miles like they are probably offering, it really doesn't matter what oil you use. Their dino sludge is fine for 3,000 miles. It might break down if you keep it in there for a long time. After they stop paying, buy whatever you like and change it yourself.

What a nice gentlemen. I believe the thread was not asking what He should use, but rather what everyone else is using.

I know being direct injection some oils are better then others but I know everyone who drives an Evo uses Amsoil Synthetic. Friend recently swapped out his Amsoil Signature Synthetic in his Evo at 7,300 and sent the oil to Blackstone and it still had life it it! This is a car that is tracked every couple weeks.

I ran Mobil 1 5w30 in the MS3 and never had a problem. No smoking or anything. Best thing to do is order an oil analysis kit from Blackstone Laboratories and test the condition of ur oil when u change it. No car will consume oil the exact same so by testing your own oil and switching brands/blends to find the best one will be your best bet.

Start with Pennzoil Platinum or Rotella both those will be more than alright like previously mentioned.

learn from this:

If you buy car new and start using synthetic from 0 miles....ur good as long as u stay synthetic

If you buy car new and start using regular from 0 miles....ur good as long as you stay regular

If you buy car used....its a hit or miss.

If you run regular for, idk, lets say 50k miles then decide to switch to synthetic, that's when you will have problems.

Why would this be harmful

It has already been stated that it does not come synthetic from factory.

Wait out the 3k then switch to wichever bottle color you like yellow, grey, green, purple; for every person saying oil "A" is shyt and "B" is what you should use there is 5 more swearing by "C". Use what you like, dont switch between them back n forth and change it out every 3k. There are differences between them all yes but if you stick with that schedule its so minimal that realy who gives a fuck.

You need to switch out that M1 for some Rotella T6 or PP ASAP. Mobil 1 is pretty much shit as far as synthetics go. They're like the Apple of the oil world - they invest in marketing to make everyone think their product is the shit but then they get their ass thoroughly kicked every time it comes to any serious performance test.
mswierse likes this.
