I love the 255's, feel like i am on rails but i wanted the 40 series sidewall for looks plus less chance in my opinion for slop in sidewall.

On flat roads it was fine, but cracked roads were really sketchy. I've got 275/35 NT01's that are going on shortly.

What you are refering to is probably bump steer. That comes from lowering the car without correcting for steering rack angle in relation to the knuckles. You can fix that by installing washers between the steering rack and the subframe or purchasing the bump steer fix kit from whiteline.

Torque steer happens when you accelerate and the front wheels want to wander in a direction other than straight. This gets worse the lower the offset you have.

This is something I've been meaning to do for a while now but keep on forgetting.

It also has a fair amount of torque steer, no getting around that though.

Gotcha! It looks really good the way it sits on the springs. But like another .5" and would be even better. I Have H&R springs on my speed and I plan on running the same size rpf1's so your photos helped a lot!

Totally stock, Drag wheels from Discount Tire and Pirelli P Zero 18's. At my age, getting into a lowered car would not be pretty at all, so I am leaving my suspension at stock MS3 GenPu height. When the Pirelli's wear out, I will go with a wider tire for more contact.

What helped handling most from my perspective is the CS Stage 2 RMM and the CS rear anti-sway bar on the stiffest setting. It flattened out the suspension in curves at speed and eliminated much understeer. I can see myself going to Koni yellow's when I get the urge to do something to the car and my preaching money has built up enough to buy them (I am retired, and my wife and I agreed that the money I make as Guest Pastor on Sunday mornings at different Lutheran Churches could be my Mazdaspeed money. I not only married "up" but I married a saint who doesn't get the car thing but knows how much fun I have playing around with the Speed.

Anybody else running 17x9+35 or 18x9+35 on a gen 2? If so would you still be able to run at least a 245/40 tire. I see a lot more people running the +45 offset. A lot with spacers if i am right wouldn't the +35 offset fix the issue of needing a spacer to clear the front coilover/give you peace of mind.

Yes but the wheel tire sticks outside the body line unless you roll and pull the fenders.

I kind of hate to necro a thread, but it was very helpful to me and I wanted to thank everyone. 2010 completely stock, now sitting on 17x9 +45 RPF1 SBC and 255/40s. No spacer, but it is pretty tight (maybe an 1/8") to the strut. A major paving company left a hard ledge in the highway during resurfacing and bent three of my factory wheels. Had the tire store write up a quote using OEM wheels from the Mazda dealer and got this whole set including tires plus some leftover from their insurance company. No plans on modding the car at all, but I have always liked RPF1s. Thanks again!
