Default Looking for tire suggestions please

Well the time has come and I need new tires for my car. I have read a ton of praise for the Michelin Pilot Super Sports and they sound like they are pretty much the best of all worlds (grip, noise, ride and life expectancy) but they aren't cheap and I was wondering if there were any other tires like these I should be considering? Also, would a 235/40/18 fit on the stock Gen 2 wheels? Any benefit besides looks or is that just a waste of money?

Background, my car is stock, eventually it may see some modifications but nothing crazy, I enjoy some spirited driving occasionally but I don't see tracking the car any time soon. I would like tires that are relatively quiet and ride well (for a performance tire) as the roads in the fine city of Winnipeg are comparable to most third world countries. The car does not see snow, and if it ever does it will get dedicated winter/snow/ice tires, as they are pretty much a necessity here in Canada.

Any help is much appreciated!

Highly recommend bridgestone potenza pole position s04. Excellent tire all around. Especially in the rain.

Pilots are great (pss) in every aspect.

If you want a cheap decent tire look at nexen series. I believe I paid $600 for entire car in 225 40 18. They may have a 235 I did not check. They gave me consitent 2.0 60s on a lightly modded speed 3. They are not that wonderful in the rain however heads up. Felt like drag radials in the rain. PSS stick pretty well in wet conditions.

PSS like these guys say. Great wet and dry performance. Also, when they get near replacing they are still very good unlike other brands that get worse over time.

This is probably heresy on this forum, but I highly recommend the Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500's (talk about a mouthful of a name). They're only $90/tire, and will give you 90% of the performance of Michelin PSS for less than half the price. They also last me around 30k miles.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I ended up ordering the Pilot Super Sports, not cheap but I thought if I'm going to spend the money I may as well get a quality product and they seemed like the safest bet.

Cool. You'll be impressed with their traction in wet and dry.
