Picked up a set of Conti DW's

Impressions will have to wait since I've got my winter set on. Was going to wait until spring but they were too cheap to pass up. Continental has a $70 rebate running through the end of the month. Got my local Discount Tire to match Tire Rack's price of $82/ea (in 225/45/R17). After the rebate, total cost (with mounting & balancing, disposal, & TPMS rebuild) will be less than $100 per corner. Not bad!

tldr - Now is a good time to buy summer tires.

Damn, I think 18s are like $150ish normally. That's a good price.

Definitely don't ride on them during the winter. You'll fuck them up and the grip isn't there. I don't know about CO but I generally don't break mine out until mid april, but haven been riding on them all winter this year since I haven't had time to swap and have a DD if needed.

I've got some I run year round here in Dallas and was impressed. Compared to some of the others I've run, they do fantastic in the rain (NT05s, PSS, etc) and still seem to have fairly decent grip (straight line at least).

I got some that were too tall, but my next set will be wider and shorter :-)

OP, how'd you get them to match that price? I call in and told them about it and they flat out denied me the price. And the guy tried to sell me on some bullshit Pirellis that "have a 40,000 mile tread wear warranty so they're pretty sticky".

That may be true. I just get annoyed when you call a place that sells wheels and tires and they sound like they are less knowledgeable than I am. Same thing happened with Firestone too. Was really interested in Firehawks but the dude I talked to sounded like a used car salesman

That is something you see nowadays very often! People on job positions without a a single idea of what they sell or how it works. They sound like program robots. Employers should take the time to properly train all employees or at least hire somebody that knows about the subject and that has vast experience and is not going to sound like" wow you read the brochure"

Update - have had the DW's on for about a month now and very happy with them so far. Good grip in the corners, and they will hold traction in 2nd gear even on E85 tune. Road noise is very good too, much lower than the crappy RE050's that came with the car.

Found out later that the DW was discontinued and replaced with the ExtremeContact Sport, which is probably why they were so cheap. If the new ones are anything like the DW, they will be a solid choice.

FWIW my local Discount Tire has been very good about matching Tire Rack's prices. I recently picked up a set of Falken Azenis for my Miata that had a TR-exclusive rebate, and they matched the price on those too.

Please let me know your impressions on the conti's extreme contact sport on grip and cornering because that's the nect tire im considering on purchasing. The other ones i thought of were the falken azenis but i think the contis are superior.

Can't speak directly to the Sports as I haven't driven on them. But since they're essentially the new version of the DW, I would expect them to be very similar. And the DW is very good.

The new Azenis (615+) I put on the Miata are very good too. Performance in the dry is probably similar (hard to say exactly since I'm driving them on different cars). But the Conti is very good in the wet too.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd probably go with the Conti. Wasn't an option for stock wheels on the Miata though. I say go for the Conti Sports, you should be very happy with them.

Thank you sir! so these tires are sticky for a street tire hmmmm, I read your review, great info and definately helpful. I'll be getting these sometime when my invos wear out! This tire is superior to many other tires, i looked at the score on the falkens, yokohama all 200 treadwear! and the contis overall are much better.

You'll be lucky if you can find them. The DWs were just discontinued, and replaced by something else. Looks like a rather similar tire, but who knows until we get someone who has bought them.

My opinion on the DW is that its a great straight-line traction tire, but are decent in the corners. They will roll like a higher profile tire because the sidewall is soft, but they're very predictable and will take the abuse. They're not rigid like some other tires, which IMO, makes them lesser in turns, but I would say they're the best all around tire if you're having traction problems as well.

It's pretty evident when they're going to understeer, which is nice. And I find that you really need to be pushing them to their limits and doing ignorant stuff for that. Again, "predictable" is the best way to summarize them.

I put in an online order at my local Discount Tire for a set of DWs in 235/45/17 since they were listed on the website for $112/tire. Got a call the next day saying DWs are actually completely sold out everywhere, but I should check out the ContactControl Sport A/S. It's a Discount Tire/America's Tire only tire from Conti. It has decent reviews online, and with the amount of rain Central Texas has been getting the last few years, I wasn't opposed to the idea of an all season. They are listed at $155 for 235/45/17, and they sold them to me for $130 a piece since the DWs I wanted were gone. So, pro tip, if the DWs are still listed on Discount's website, order them, and see if you can get a discount on these...

First impressions... Well, getting a new tire after nearly bald ones is obviously night and day. I'm on my 93 tune now (290ish whp), and it'll bark 2nd, but not 3rd. I'll switch to my Eth tune (320ish whp) when this tank is done and see how the traction is.

They definitely have softer sidewalls than the Sumitomo HTR ZIIIs I had. They also have that soft side wall curve the ZIIIs didn't have. However, this is my daily, and I take long roadtrips, so the softer ride isn't a bad thing for me. They are also a lot quieter than the ZIIIs. The 50k warranty was also a nice addition.

I have a roadtrip from Austin to SoCal in June, I'll report back after that.

Oh, and I'm on 17x8 +45s

I think you got it wrong, i'm not looking for dw's, im going for the new model extreme contact sport which is practically the replacement for the dw's. Read the great review on tire rack done by op aznpersuazn, he has had them for a while now. This tires are available everywhere so thay are easy to find.

I just picked up a set of Continental Extreme Contact Sports to replace my worn Conti DW set. Initial impressions - Much quieter in terms of cruising road noise and the sidewall is noticeably stiffer than the previous generation. Also, not that the previous DW's were any slouch but these seem to take sudden directional changes like a champ and feel much tighter with less slop inspiring far more confidence when throwing it into a tight corner at speed. Wet traction is also quite good, but I'll chalk that up to them being a fresh set of rubber for now. I'll be able to give some final thoughts once I add a few thousand miles to them. So far they're rock solid.

technically they're still DWs just the 06 version. On that note I've had both and the 06s are a noticeable improvement. If you look at the tread pattern they made it a little more aggressive especially towards the outer edges. Same basic principle of dry/wet/snow do it all tire but more grip. The DWS wear indicators are kind of a cool trick as well. There might be a little increase in sidewall stiffness, but imho still not a super choice for regular track days, there are better, albeit it more expensive, options for a street/track tire.

That being said its still a great tire especially for a mainly DD duty vehicle that only sees a few track days a year. It has great grip and good road manners in regard to ride and noise AND its one of the few tires that does well in snow while still being somewhat performance oriented.

My son put the Pirelli P Zero in the 225/40 18 from Discount before I bought the car from him. I put new wheels on them and they run real well. They are wearing well with about 5000 miles on them now. Nice cornering with all of the other chassis mods I have done. When I wear these out I will look at a bigger size and larger contact patch.

Thank you sir for also sharing your input and review. This is the tire i'll be going with also. Like i mentioned before i had 2 other options which are falken azenis fk-453 or toyo t1 sport.
These are all great tires so its a hard pick!
Update: Just got done reading tons of reviews on both tires and definately the contis will blow away these other 2 models, specially in overall tire aspects.

Personally, I like a softer sidewall for a DD tire. Having the extra ride comfort at the expense of turn-in response is worth it to me.
