Default Stock 2010 MS3 wheel weight?

Hey All,

I am looking to replace my stock rims but I want to make sure that I am picking something LIGHTER than the stock wheels. It is amazing how much difference just reducing your rotating weight can make. My ride is a '10 MS3 in red. I found these wheels....

Link to Wheels

But I am concerned about the weight. 25 lbs seems heavy to me. Anyone know the stock weight?

Thanks!

24lbs not counting tires.

I switched to Konig and shaved down to 18.5lbs. The difference is not terribly noticeable but the car seemed to get up a bit quicker once I swapped. I'd stay on the stock wheels until you find something you really like and that is good quality.

Actually to be more precise the stock 10' MS3 wheels are 24.6lbs (closer to 25lbs).

True, I always though they felt .6lbs heavier when I was driving stock.

So I would actually be gaining a little weight going with these. Thats too bad. I REALLY like the look and at the current 40% price drop I would snatch them up in a heartbeat. For red cars I really like the black wheels with the red lip. Sexy.

Worth the extra weight. I would stop eating lunch for those wheels.

Personally, I don't think any wheel is worth adding extra weight. The stockers are heavy enough; if I'm paying hundreds of dollars for a set of aftermarket wheels, they better be lighter. There are many wheels that are similar looking to the ones the OP linked to; I'm sure there are lighter ones out there.

Gtarman,

I am on the opposite coast from you. You seriously want to ship those across the country? I doubt it would be worth the money. As for the wheels. I gave up on those the minute I saw they weighed more than the stock ones. I agree with Vator. I found some Konigs that were very similar that were 18 lbs. I think I might go with those.

I think most wheel sites let you search by weight. I agree with everyone in saying that it wouldn't be worth it to have the same weight wheels.

I use to have a MP5 and i put konigs on there, honestly I strongly disagree with anyone getting them. Just normal drive 2 of the 4 wheels went out of round, fucking pissed me off. Enkei makes a bad ass wheel. strong lighter and sexy as hell

I got the kosei K1 Ts 18x8 wheels (40mm offset) and had them powdercoated black. They were $170/wheel and weigh 17.2lbs. each. I had to call Tire Rack directly and ask for that wheel in that size and offset as they didn't have it listed on their site but in the grassroots motorsports magazine I had.

Out of the box

After powdercoating black

I know a guy who has had these wheels on a mini cooper for about a year or so. He has autoxed and road raced at least once or twice a month on top of daily driving and has had no problems with the wheels.

Those look great! How did you find them? 17 lbs is perfect. For that size wheel I don't know that you can get much lighter without breaking the bank. Mind if I ask what it cost you to powdercoat them? I would probably powdercoat them to match the dark gray grill, etc.

I saw them in a Grassroots Motorsport Magazine with Tire Racks phone number listed. It had there specs listed as 114x5 18x8 +40 (17.2lbs) $170 ea. I new that size would fit so I called tire rack and they still had them.

They aren't listed under the mazdaspeed 3 on the site because of the aggressive offset. In fact, one of the sales guys I talked to wouldn't even sell them to me cause he said they wouldn't work and I didn't know what I was talking about. lol!

It cost me $50/wheel to powdercoat at a local shop. And although granted, I'm not lowered yet, I don't rub or have any problem with the aggressive offset.

Oh and there was a pretty noticeable difference with the weight change. My friends stage 1 gti used to always jump ahead briefly at the start of a third gear 40 roll (cause his torque comes on a little sooner).

Now its just bye bye...

Wow 25lbs for stock wheels. My 20's on my CSRT are only 22lbs and they are only cast. The specs on the kosei K1 Ts look nice. I might have to call TR and see if they have them for the new speed.

Just called Tire Rack and they don't have the K1 TS that fits the 10' Speed3 in any size.

Don't tell them what you drive. Just ask if they have them in 114x5 bolt pattern with 40mm offset and 18x8 in size.

On there computers the ms3 will only show up next to wheels that are 7.0" to 7.5" wide because this is considered safe and the 8" wide wheels are considered to aggressive. (or possibly the 40mm offset)

Here is a wheel offset calculator so you can see the difference that the size and offset will make on your car.

Just called Tire Rack and they don't have the K1 TS that fits the 10' Speed3 in any size.
You are right about those Kosei K1 Ts rims. They kick ass. We have them on my wife's Mini Cooper S. The difference in weight made a significant difference!

What? Yes you can. Look at the left hand column. And the link is already sorted by weight.

When I was buying mine, the guy that sold them to me said something about them being discontinued. I wasn't sure if I heard him right but maybe I did...

i think you might want to buy them. they look pretty sick. and you have to realize that even though they are the same weight as the stockers your gaining an extra 1" of width on the rim. and thats a freaking lot if you ask me. to be able to get 18x8.5s in 20lbs or less is gonna set you back a pretty penny too cause they will most likely be forged. just my 2 cents. i'm running the RX-8 shinka's 18.8s and they are 22lbs.

Those wont fit. Sell the wheels and then sell the car.
