Default Weight of OEM 18" wheels/tires on 2010 MS3

Anybody take off their OEM 18" wheels and tires and weigh them yet?
Would be curious to see how much the combo weighs.

Thanks

The wheels are probably around 24lbs like all other 18"x7.5" Mazda wheels.. tire weight could vary because OEM's get their own specs on tires.

Cool, seems about right.
Tirerack has the OEM tires listed at 24 lbs each.

Hopefully somebody will pop a wheel/tire off soon and weigh them.

Getting aftermarket wheels is always one of the first things I do when I get a new car. And if the tires a car comes with OEM aren't the best, I usually upgrade them too.
In both cases, if possible, I also try to reduce unsprung weight too.

He's asking 2010.

RX8 wheels are lighter than 07-09 MS3 wheels. The RX8s are 20 pounds.

Hey I forgot about this thread of mine.
For the love of God, someone jack up the back of your 2010 MS3 pop the wheel and tire off and put it on a scale.
You'd be doing us all a nice service.

Did you weigh the stock wheels and tires of the 2010 MS3 yet?
Somebody on this forum has got to have an interest in this and know what the rotational mass of the stock wheels/tires are.

Let your brothers and sisters in on some knowledge and post the results.

So if the tire/rim combo is 48.6 then the weight of the wheel alone is 24.6lbs which is .3lbs heavier than the 1st GEN MS3 wheels. I weighed mine @fed EX 24.3lbs.

Assuming both scales are identical =)

Creatve - Thank you for weighing! Now when I eventually go wheel shopping I will have a baseline!

Awesome, after a month, I finally got somebody to do that, so thank you.
I kind of figured it would be in the 48-50 lbs range.

There is a good deal of rotational mass to be lost with aftermarket wheels/tires on the 2010 MS3 then.
The stock tires weigh 24 lbs IIRC, so the wheels weigh about 24-25 lbs.
Going with the tires I recommended many weeks ago (the new Continentals) an owner could lose 3 lbs per tire, and there are plenty of 18-19 inch wheels that weigh 18-20 lbs.

So dropping 7-9 lbs PER corner would be pretty easy on the 2010.
In my testing experience each pound of rotational mass lost is equal to about 2.5+ lbs of sprung weight.

So if you drop 8 lbs per corner or 32 lbs total in wheel/tire weight, that would be like removing 80-90 lbs from the car.
But it also affords a bit better steering response and braking too.
